Editor’s Note – September 2016

Over the past month, I was using the new Canon M10 to shoot at a couple of events and food reviews. The Canon EOS M10 is a system/ mirrorless shooter with a 18.0 megapixel APS-C size CMOS sensor, Hybrid CMOS AF II, and 180° Tilt-type Touchscreen LCD+Self Portrait Mode among its main features.

I only had it for a rather short period of time however I did manage to use it to shoot a couple of food reviews and an event.

The autofocus had to be fast and accurate for this shot and luckily it was!

I really liked the fact that the camera is pretty good for macro shots as I do quite a number of food reviews. Focusing is accurate while I like the colour reproduction.

Yet again the camera displays its strength in macro photography.

There were some white balance issues though when shooting in yellow lighting but nothing a little post-processing couldn’t fix. (I edited the white balance for the photo above.)

All in all, I’d say the Canon EOS M10 is quite a capable camera and suitable for hobbyists who are just starting out, or those who want a good and highly portable camera to bring on a trip. It’s an interesting addition to an already quite crowded market in which brands like Sony, Olympus, Panasonic and Fujifilm entered much earlier and thus pretty much already dominate this market segment. It should be quite interesting to see if consumers in Malaysia start to adopt Canon’s new system/ mirrorless camera.
