The Unilever eco-friendly beauty brand, introduces two new lines of hair and body care variants – Marine Moisture and Deep Detox to bring purpose to the planet through small acts of love. Inspired by the love towards nature and ocean, Love Beauty and Planet created a special Clean Oceans Edition of beauty products made from ocean-bound plastics, and natural ingredients rich in essential minerals harnessed directly from our beautiful oceans.
“The brand began its journey with one goal, to provide a more purposeful meaning to beauty and daily self-care regime. Love Beauty and Planet uses 100% recycled materials to produce its product bottles, with the aim to reduce waste on the planet. This encourages consumers to practice the norm of recycling frequently used beauty products. Moreover, Love Beauty and Planet’s bottles are filled with formulas made with natural ingredients that are free from harsh chemicals and can deliver a differentiated self-care routine for the hair and body. The fast-rinse technology available in the rich conditioners, provide a superior conditioning experience using zero parabens or dyes, are naturally derived, vegan, and cruelty-free, while being able to help save water in every shower. Each collection is infused with organic and sustainable ingredients ethically sourced from all over the world,” said Nuning Wahyuningsih, Senior Marketing Manager and Head of Personal Care Category, Unilever (Malaysia) Holdings Sdn. Bhd.
Ocean pollution is a big threat to the planet today, with more than 8 million tons of plastic being dumped into the ocean every year. Malaysia has been ranked highest among the six countries (Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, and China) analysed in terms of annual per-capita plastic packaging consumption, at about 16.8 kg per person. It is focused on household consumption of plastic packaging usage, where the plastic used is most likely to end up in the ocean (WWF Plastic Packaging in Southeast Asia and China Report, 18 February 2020)
Although Malaysia is ranked the highest waste collection rate amongst these six countries, it still creates the need for improvement in waste segregation. The nation requires a better waste disposal system, and improvement in recycling rates, with the support of various stakeholders. This is an ongoing effort that needs continuous support and practice from consumers, as well as brands. With that, Love Beauty and Planet encourages consumers to continue playing their part in saving the environment through the #smallactsoflove campaign.
“Our Malaysian consumers have become more aware of plastic pollution and trying to make smarter choices. Taking into consideration its holistic approach in its entire product life cycle, social partnerships and beyond, Love Beauty and Planet proactively makes that change through this initiative. Love Beauty and Planet creates products that makes you look and feel good while giving a little extra love to the planet. This Clean Oceans Edition is particularly meant for a beautiful country such as Malaysia, where our life is connected by the Ocean. We believe that with the right mindset, a single step at a time makes a difference in saving our beautiful ocean and marine wildlife. Let’s play a part in decreasing the usage of single used plastics and begin implementing recycling as part of our everyday lifestyle, starting with Love Beauty and Planet products,” said Rachel Sak, Brand Manager, Love Beauty and Planet, Unilever (Malaysia) Holdings Sdn. Bhd.
Love Beauty and Planet is a brand that encourages the act of being kind to earth, while catering beauty needs to its consumers. The bottles are made from 100% Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) plastic and are recyclable (except for its cap which the brand is committed to change by 2021). This is the reason why the bottles are not 100% see-through and why each piece of the packaging is truly unique. Whilst the product range, which includes shampoos, conditioners, lotions, and body wash uses “ethically sourced” oils and extracts and is formulated without nasty ingredients such as silicone and parabens. The conditioner also uses a “fast-rinse technology” that breaks down the formula quicker, requiring less water used to rinse the product out of the hair.
“Love Beauty and Planet takes into consideration the recycling element and approach holistically. We are committed to making sustainable living a common practice, right from the start of our lifestyle habits. It starts from the simple and little things, like reducing plastic waste, recycling commonly used personal care products. We hope to inspire everyday changemakers to commit to their own #smallactsoflove as it plays a part in restoring balance and beauty to our beloved planet. Our approach is a holistic one, encompassing the entire product life cycle and beyond. We’ve given careful thought to our ingredients, product packaging, and social partnerships,” says Nuning Wahyuningsih, Senior Marketing Manager and Head of Personal Care Category, Unilever (Malaysia) Holdings Sdn. Bhd.
The newly introduced Love Beauty and Planet’s Clean Oceans Edition focuses on ocean-associated recycled waste to form the base of an exciting new line of hair and skin self-care routine. Love Beauty and Planet’s Clean Oceans Edition Deep Detox range is incorporated with a rising key beauty ingredient, natural sea salt. This simple yet powerful ingredient contains minerals and other oceanic components known to help purify, balance, and restore hair and skin health without stripping away natural oils. The Deep Detox sea salt and bergamot shampoo cleanses and detoxes the scalp, getting rid of excess dead skin and residues. Sea salt can also aid with gentle natural exfoliation that does not harm sensitive skin in any way. It is an ingredient known to help cleanse pores, while balancing oil production and retaining moisture from within, leaving skin feeling soft and invigorated. It is complemented by the scent of bergamot that has a bittersweet, fruity note and mild, spicy undertones that is truly memorable. The Deep Detox range is also complemented by sun-drenched bergamot that is ethically sourced from Italy during the harvest season between the months of November to March.
The Marine Moisture range is infused with a rising skincare ingredient made from blue-green algae. It is popularly known for being packed with essential vitamins and minerals that are great for moisture and hydration. The blue-green algae are an ocean ingredient filled with powerful antioxidants that have anti-aging properties and skin-conditioning powers. Packed with natural blue-green algae and eucalyptus, the Marine Moisture fast-rinse hair conditioner balances tresses and moisturizes dry hair, leaving it revived and restored back to its healthy appearance, stripped away from greasy residues and oily strands.
