With its origins in the Asian megalopolis dubbed the ‘Oriental Paris’, Chateau Dionne Kuala Lumpur (CDKL) finally opens in Bukit Damansara, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Reflective of its birthplace at the upscale Xuhui District of Shanghai in 2014, located amongst an eclectic area of high-end malls, indie boutiques, trendy restaurants, art galleries, and a cultural preservation zone with sycamore tree lined streets dubbed ‘the French concession’, CDKL continues her gastronomic indulgent tales and vibrant experiences in Malaysia.
Located over two floors in the spruce upmarket and prime commercial area of Plaza Damansara, CDKL offers a thoroughly luxe French dining experience that’s suitable for celebrative occasions, entertaining clients, or private functions.
A snazzy ‘floor to ceiling’ aperitif-digestif bar and a dedicated chef’s table-open kitchen seating area on the ground level welcome the inquisitive gourmand. For blissful couples, exquisite mood-lit clustered seating booths await. CDKL is impassionately run by its founder David Lim and partner executive chef Andy Choy, both being inspiring trailblazers in their field of true calling. “Many fellow Malaysians who visited us in Chateau Dionne Shanghai (CDS), have always asked us to open a similar place nearer to home, to relive the camaraderie and warmth of CDS more frequently and easily…now we have come home!” quipped Lim.
David Lim is a seasoned regional beverage industry entrepreneur extraordinaire. Since the turn of the millennium in 2000, he established and spearheaded the development of among Asia’s leading and largest chain of wine specialty concept stores, spanning a network of 50 outlets at its apex. The Malaysia Book of Records recognized ‘Denise the Wine Shop’, named after his first daughter, as the largest wine specialty concept store chain in the country.
Come 2014, the year when China have beaten the French in being the largest red wine market in the world, Lim was already in bustling Shanghai conceiving his next endeavor of a novel wine-restaurant-bar establishment ‘Chateau Dionne’, aptly named after his second daughter. With an unhurried focus and shift towards fine conceptual gearing directions, two outfits were firmly established in well-heeled trending neighborhoods of the ‘Paris of the Orient’. Fueled by unceasing commitment to detailed service and hospitality exuberance, Chateau Dionne has become a frequent destination for ebullient gourmands, national media personalities and international silver-screen superstars.
Andy Choy, hailing from Malaysia’s own local food paradise Penang, realized his childhood dreams of becoming a chef of notable distinction through his insatiable thirst and resolute zeal. He won a scholarship to study European cuisine in Switzerland, and thereafter his culinary journey has brought him to work and train alongside renowned celebrity chef luminaires Guy Savoy and Gordon Ramsay in Paris, London and Dubai.
” Since childhood, I love to eat, I love seeing people enjoying food, I was curious about food…. how it was made, ingredients that went into a dish…and I ended up naturally in the kitchen,” shared Choy.
Choy was Champion in the 2017 Chef Par Excellence Cooking Competition and a coveted finalist in the Concours Gastronomie Paris in 2018. Now a multi-disciplinary industry professional, with varied exposure experience from Michelin-starred dining establishments, fine hotels, to novelty bistro-bar-cafe and bespoke private catering platforms, Andy comes home to share his journey through “Classic French dining with a Contemporary Local balance” credo at Chateau Dionne Kuala Lumpur.
