“Dine With Me” Set Menu at Tatsu Japanese Cuisine, Intercontinental Kuala Lumpur Hotel

[Restaurants]

Kathy and I headed over to Tatsu Japanese Cuisine recently to try their new “Dine with Me” dinner promo priced at RM888 nett (reservations are required) which is available every Saturday and Sunday evening currently until 31 December 2017. Tatsu is located at level 1 of InterContinental Kuala Lumpur is a premium Japanese restaurant. Deriving its name from the word “Tatsu-jin” meaning master or expert, Tatsu combines a subtle blend of Japanese aesthetics with contemporary yet minimalist design – with emphasis on dark timber woods with sea cobalt blue and white colour streams, and walls of sake bottles and sake cups and contemporary wooden chairs and tables.

The restaurant has a seating capacity of 147 seats, and offers five choices of dining seating styles from the sushi bar, a teppanyaki room, private dining rooms, public dining area to a cozy lounge dining area. For sake and wine connoisseurs, there is a private sake bar surrounded floor to ceiling glass windows that offers a view of the hotel’s landscaped garden and cascading waterfall. The bar serves more than 20 types of sake, shochu and wines whilst Tatsu’s Sushi Bar serves fresh seafood flown in twice a week from Japan, with hand-grated fresh wasabi. The dedicated teppanyaki counter serves Australian wagyu tenderloin, whole live lobster and the pacific black cod.

Tatsu Japanese Cuisine is a recipient of the Certificate of Excellence award by TripAdvisor and listed by Malaysia Tatler as one of Malaysia’s Best Restaurants for exceptional cuisine and service in 2016.

The bar dining area

The teppanyaki area
I was particularly pleased to find Kirin Ichiban beer on tap! Not very common here in Malaysia!
The restaurant has both a wine cellar and a bar which stocks a wide selection of wines, sake, whisky and more
The main dining area
The window seats in the main dining area overlooks the lush landscaped garden on the ground floor

Sit at the sushi bar if you like to watch the chefs in action.
Japanese deco added to the authenticity and premium feel of the establishment – this is definitely not Sushi King!
There are also multiple private rooms should you want more privacy, each with its own deco

Appetiser: Assorted Sashimi Selections

Sashimi tuna, Kanpachi, Salmon, Hotate, Akagai, Oyster mayonnaise, Ikura sushi, Avocado sushi, Anago sushi, Uni sushi.

Freshly grated wasabi (as opposed to the wasabi paste which you get in commercial restaurants which more often than not isn’t real wasabi) to go with this dish!

Hamaguri Miso Soup

Japanese clam miso soup with tofu, spring onion, and wakame

Seafood Platter

Unagi shiro sakamushi

Tarabayaki

Sake shioyaki and teriyaki

Ebi tempura

Shirao with kakiage

Broccoli tempura

Yamaimo tempura

Asparagus tempura

Unagi cooked in sake instead of slathered in teriyaki sauce. The result was a surprising yet tasty treat which offered more delicate flavours – a welcome surprise for a unagi lover like me!

Meat Platter

Wagyu sumiyaki with Himalayan salt

Grilled honey chicken with shitachi

Lamb teppanyaki with cheddar cheese aonori

Stewed beef cheek with red wine

Stewed aigamo rosu-ni with julienne carrot, kyuri, and radish

Bacon with fried potato roll

Mushroom teppanyaki

Do not I repeat DO NOT overcook the beef otherwise you’ll be wasting an expensive and delicious piece of beef. Medium rare or at the most medium and you’ll have melt in the mouth succulent beef!
The fried chicken was surprisingly good! Crispy skin and tender meat!

Dessert

Grand Marnier Ice Soufflé, Green tea Haagen Dazs Ice cream, Mochi
