Headed over to Villa Danieli in the Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur on 8 May 2015 for the “Italian & Japanese Culinary Affair” preview dinner. The dinner was a marriage of the best of the Italian and Japanese Culinary worlds exemplified in each dish for the 5 course menu.
Throughout this promotion, guests can also try the 5 course menu paired with Frescobaldi wine and Japanese Sake which will add another dimension to the dishes.

Amuse Bouche – Risotto Roll with Sakura Denbu paired with Danzante Prosecco.
The little risotto roll was sprayed with Japanese whisky before being set on fire! Good thing there was the refreshing and bubbly Danzante Prosecco to cool things off!
Appetizer – Tuna tartar layered with crispy salami, gari shoga, frisee and glazed teriyaki paired with the Frescobaldi Pomino Bianco Doc, 2013
A really pretty dish paired with a white wine which is blend of mainly Chardonnay and Pinot Bianco. The wine has an elegant bouquet of clean-edged aromas, with a velvety texture, rich depth, and balance with savoury fruit and vibrant acidity complementing each other.
Pasta – Mirin chicken broth with sansai and potato tortellini paired with Chitosetsuru Tanrei and Echigozakura Nihonshu
A marriage of East and West paired with not one (1) but two (2) different types of sake! A nice heart-warming savoury broth which contrasted against the slightly sweet and dry sakes!
Main Course – Grilled black angus striploin with tamagoyaki, bacon wrapped asparagus and miso beef jus paired with Frescobaldi CastelGiocondo Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, 2008
I always like a good slab of beef and this dish went well with the full-bodied flavours of the Frescobaldi wine paired with it. Do remember to request for your desired “doneness” of the beef.
If you don’t eat beef, you could opt for the Yamasa marinated garoupa fillet with seared polenta, chukka wakame, golden ebiko and dill voloute which is also paired with the Frescobaldi CastelGiocondo Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, 2008.
Dessert – Mitarashi kushi dango with rich ricotta mousse on sable crumble and berries compote paired with Suntory Kakubin
Almost too pretty to eat. The flavours of the kushi dango with the mousse and berries were balanced out by the strong flavours of the Suntory Kakubin whisky! A really inspired pairing and a perfect end to the meal.

Villa Danieli is one of my favourite romantic restaurants because it is a free-standing trattoria with a warm and cosy interior.
