[Valentine’s Day Special]

I actually visited Cedar on 15 back in December 2013 however I decided to only publish the post now as I think the restaurant is a very suitable located for a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner. So let’s get started…

Cedar on 15 is located in the Impiana KLCC Hotel which is along Jalan Pinang, Kuala Lumpur and diagonally opposite the KL Convention Centre.

Dim lighting and flush seats combine to give the main dining area a very romantic ambiance

Beside the main dining area is an al-fresco bar and lounge area, There is also a private dining room which seats around a dozen people.

After snapping some pics at the bar area, we choose a nice table with a beautiful Christmas tree in the background.

There was a three piece band on hand to serenade us and they were even nice enough to entertain our song requests!

Organic Pumpkin Chowder – RM25.00 – with pumpkin seed oil and crouton. I liked how the chowder was served! I’m quite a fan of pumpkin soup however at most restaurants they end up tasting too rich and bland. Not so at Cedar on 15 at the pumpkin chowder was not too rich, and was very flavourful while the croutons added a little texture to the dish. As I selected the food myself I was patting myself on the back for choosing this one as it was a great start to the meal.

Poached Lobster Salad – RM 98.00 – Served on crunchy celery raspberry salad and passion fruit mayonnaise. I must say that Cedar on 15 puts some effort into presentation! The flavours of the fresh and juicy lobster combined well with the other ingredients while the sauce was subtle and not overpowering and lightly drizzled over the salad (my partner in crime is very into healthy eating and she really hates her salads drenched in dressing). A variety of flavours and textures working in harmony on my palate made this one another winning dish!

Pumpkin Seed Crusted Black Cod – RM72.00 – Pan-fried, served with mushroom tomato chutney and fennel mousse. This is one of the restaurant’s signature items and it was absolutely delicious! The fish was very fresh and I couldn’t get enough of the pumpkin seed crusted skin! The sauce was great too and was really very impressed with the food by this point.
Black Angus Tasmania Tenderloin 220gram RM80.00
Black Angus Tasmanian Tenderloin (220gram) – RM80.00 – cooked medium rare which resulted in a juicy and tender steak! Oh how I love my steaks and this one was so flavourful it didn’t even need to go with the sauce.

I love sauces cooked with alcohol and this one had a little zing from the pepper and some sweetness from the cognac! However as the steak was already so flavourful this was a little redundant but nevertheless it was good. The mushrooms were nice and juicy with its earthy flavours balanced out by the herb butter (which surprisingly didn’t make it too oily).

Chocolate Seduction (one of their signature dishes) RM35.00 – Ensemble of dark mousse, white ganache and famous sacher tart. This is a chocolate lover’s dream! Rich dark chocolate mousse which is not too sweet and created a little party in your mouth. My favourite of the three (3) desserts!

Pavlova – RM20.00 – Fluffy light meringue sponge filled with fresh strawberries and pistachio. Thumbs up to the chef as this was not the usually super sweet meringue. Break the meringue into pieces and enjoy it with the fresh strawberries and pistachio, and savour the combination of different flavours and textures.

Chocolate Moelleux – RM25.00 – Warm pudding with melted chocolate and vanilla ice-cream. Break it open and the lava comes pouring out! This was a nice hearty dessert and it went well with the vanilla ice cream.

Cedar on 15 has two awards to its name – Flavors of Australia 2013 Restaurant Challenge Champion (Category A) by the Australia Trade Commission (Austrade), and the Best Restaurant 2013 by Malaysia Tatler.

Honestly I really liked Cedar on 15 and not just for its delicious Western food. It’s not too crowded and not ridiculously priced even though its located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, while the setting and ambiance complemented by the live band made it a really ideal place to bring your date for a nice romantic semi-fine dining dinner. After dinner you can always stay on for drinks at the bar and lounge section while admiring the view of KLCC.

Valentine’s Day Special at Cedar on 15

Executive Chef Helmut Lamberger has designed a special Valentine’s menu for couples this Valentine’s Day starting off with the Amuse Bouche by the chef himself to offer diners a glimpse into the chef’s approach to the art of cuisine. There will be a chocolate Cigar for the gentlemen while ladies will get a red rose upon arrival to set the mood for the night. Couples will get to enjoy a special ‘Strawberry Frozen in Ice Cubes and ‘Love Potion#9’ cocktail to enjoy while waiting for dinner to be served.

The menu will include:

Carpaccio of Norwegian Salmon with low Temperature cooked Egg, Shiso Cress and Baby lettuce

Creamy Soup of Cauliflower with Scallop Spinach Tian

Sherbet of Beetroot and Apple served in a gold dusted Ice Bowl

Aurora Lamb Loin in Parsley Crust with Truffle Mashed Potato and Kataifi Vegetable

Strawberry Parfait with Rose flavored Macaroons and House cultured Passion fruit Yoghurt

This special offering is only from 7.00 pm to 10.30pm on 14 and 15 February 2014, and is priced at RM 488++ per couple.
