[Valentine’s Day Special Review]

Cedar on 15 is one of those restaurants which I consider to be a hidden gem in a bustling city. Oddly enough, although the ambience and the view is awesome for romantic outings and the food is pretty reasonably priced, this venue is often overlooked for more outstanding (and some would say overpriced) restaurants in Kuala Lumpur.

In any case, that’s fine by me because if the restaurant is full on a daily basis (which is what the hotel would love I bet ha ha!) it would rather spoil the romantic ambience.

I’ve reviewed Cedar on 15 twice before and you can read about my previous visits here:

This year, Cedar on 15 has assembled a special four (4) course Valentine’s Day menu prepared by Executive Chef Kenneth Chee, which showcases ideal cuts of meat and the freshest seafood complemented by optional glass of sparkling wine or mocktail.

Amuse Bouche

This changes daily and is a showcase of the chef’s skills. This time we got a beautiful and delicate salmon and scallop tartar which went well with the crispy cracker giving a delightful mix of taste and texture.

Soup – Quail Consomme

A quail consommé that is made with love – a heart shape egg custard and chicken mushroom tortellini.

A quail soup? Now this I haven’t eaten before. Was rather like chicken soup except tastier! The heart-shaped dumpling dough was a nice touch.

Palate Cleanser

Lemon and Lime sherbet on ice

Nice and refreshing. The rose petals were a nice touch and made this a very photo worthy palate cleanser.

Char Grilled Waygu Beef Tenderloin

with potatoes puree, baby vegetables, shimeji and trio peppercorn sauce

Beautifully cooked to a perfect medium/ medium rare and oh so juicy, tender and flavourful! I really wished there was more! If you eat beef you must absolutely choose this dish but don’t order the doneness more than medium please or you’ll spoil a really good piece of beef!

Pan Seared Cod Fish

topped with herbs crusted served with boiled potatoes, lobster sauce and seasonal poached vegetables.

I thought this one was pretty good but compared to the lovely wagyu…erm I don’t think many dishes can compete. Good thing my partner for the night didn’t eat beef so I had the wagyu while she had this one. I did try it though and the fish was cooked perfectly while the presentation was attention grabbing with the upright pastry ring (I don’t recommend eating the ring though) which I guess is supposed to signify a wedding ring? Very creative.

Dessert

Melba Lavender Jelly Mousse

A very pretty dessert comprising a macaron, vanilla ice cream and a melba lavender jelly mousse. Now I’m not a big fan of desserts as I find most too sweet for my liking especially macarons but to my great surprise this dessert was not too sweet at all! In fact it was just nice for me and I did finish most of it…especially the ice cream (how can anyone say no to ice cream right?). A very very pretty dessert and we spent five (5) minutes just taking photos of it before realising that the ice cream was melting.

Chocolate Pralines

Some delicious white, milk and dark chocolates to end the meal. Naturally I went for the dark chocolate pralines as those are my favourite!

The Set Menu is priced at RM588 nett per couple on 14th of February and RM499 nett per couple on 13th of February.

Diners will be serenaded by a violinist playing contemporary pieces. Please book early as Cedar on 15 is one of those restaurants in high demand on Valentine’s Day. I actually suggest that you go on 13 Feb (which is a Saturday night thus you don’t need to worry about waking up early to go to work the following day) and get the set at RM499.00 then open a bottle of wine in the adjoining lounge and take in the view of KL city over a good conversation with your partner!
