Some of the finest teams and drivers in Formula 1 have chosen the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph, which will always be remembered as their preferred chronograph. The timeless design, which dates back to 1963, has been celebrated in various expressions, but the yellow gold items in this collection continue to stand out. The 2022 gold version builds on this distinguished legacy of renowned racing watches with its chic deep black dial.

In order to expand on this exceptional legacy, TAG Heuer has created a dial that has never been seen before. It is black with golden gilded subdials and is an inverted version of the renowned Heuer reference 1158 CHN. Enthusiasts may also be able to identify the iconic John Player Special livery’s two-tone colour scheme, which was unique in Formula 1 during the 1970s and 1980s. At the start of his illustrious career, TAG Heuer ambassador and world champion Ayrton Senna’s 98T Lotus wore the fabled livery.

The present special edition combines TAG Heuer’s steadfast love and support for motorsport with one of the brand’s major ambassadors’ early successes to create a remarkable interpretation of the classic chronograph. The classic 42-mm case has gold pushers and a crown that are crafted of solid 18K 3N yellow gold. The dial’s deep, rich black and sunray brushed finish add style, depth, and a delicate dance of light to the wrist.

Two “azuré” and gilded gold chronograph subdials at 3 and 9 o’clock stand out against the deep black dial. A subtle permanent second indicator and date window at 6 o’clock complete the aesthetically appealing tricompax configuration. The dial is made more elegant and legible by having polished 18K 3N yellow gold-plated indexes and hands.

The sapphire crystal case back provides an excellent view of the movement and the custom black oscillating mass. The Calibre Heuer 02, the brand’s own chronograph movement, drives the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph. It offers exceptional timekeeping precision and performance with an 80-hour power reserve thanks to its vertical clutch and column wheel. A large-scale black alligator strap with a gold pin buckle is used to showcase the piece.

The black and gold design is equally as appealing today as it was back in the 1970s. It faithfully carries on Jack Heuer’s vision into a decidedly modern piece that embodies confidence, character, elegance, and sophistication.
