OnePlus Introduces the OnePlus Nord 2T 5G and OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite 5G in Malaysia

OnePlus introduced two newest additions to OnePlus Nord, the company’s affordable smartphone line, to the Malaysian market – the OnePlus Nord 2T ^5G and OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite ^5G. The launch on 14 July 2022 in Kuala Lumpur marked OnePlus’ first-ever official launch in Malaysia, reiterating the brand’s commitment to the Malaysian market. As this was my first ever exposure to the brand and I was quite curious to see their new offerings as (if you follow me on social media) I often try various new smartphones out in the field.

The OnePlus Nord 2T ^5G includes the flagship essentials, with the motto “Everything You Could Ask For” packing the same flagship 80W SUPERVOOC fast charging (that debuted on the OnePlus 10 Pro), an upgraded MediaTek Dimensity 1300 chipset, an AI-enhanced flagship camera from the OnePlus 10R, along with OxygenOS 12.1

The OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite ^5G, on the other hand, includes the core features at the brand’s most accessible price. Offering “A Little More Than You’d Expect”, the device offers a fast, energy-efficient chipset, a large battery with fast charging, and a 120 Hz display. The device also comes pre-installed with OxygenOS 12.1, has 5G connectivity, and retains popular features from the Nord CE series – like a 3.5 mm headphone jack and expandable storage via a microSD card.

The OnePlus Nord 2T ^5G comes with the same flagship 80W SUPERVOOC fast charging as the OnePlus 10 Pro, which powers the device’s 4,500-mAh dual-cell battery from 1-100% in 27 minutes. It takes just 15 minutes to provide a day’s power – 120% faster than the original OnePlus Nord.

It is also TÜV Rheinland certified for safe fast charging and usage. Moreover, the OnePlus Nord 2T ^5G has 9 built-in temperature sensors to monitor the charging temperature in real-time, ensuring that the phone stays safe and cool during the charging process. At the same time, an independent integrated circuit (IC) manages the charging system to ensure charging safety and stability.

The OnePlus Nord 2T ^5G stacks a powerful camera unit on its rear comprised of the same flagship 50 MP Sony IMX766 sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS) as the OnePlus 10R, a 120° ultra-wide camera, and a 2 MP mono lens. The 50 MP Sony IMX766 was handpicked for its 1/1.56-inch large sensor size, 1.0-μm pixel size, and its support for OIS that, combined with its ability to let in 56% more light, allows the OnePlus Nord 2T ^5G to capture brighter and more detailed photos in dimly lit environments. The OnePlus Nord 2T ^5G also features an 8 MP ultra-wide camera with a 120° field of view.

Additionally, the OnePlus Nord 2T ^5G supports Nightscape mode, which can shoot photos with high levels of detail and natural colours in low light (thanks to the the MediaTek Dimensity 1300 chipset with AI computational photography).

Harnessing the power of Sony’s DOL-HDR image processing technology, (OnePlus claims that) the OnePlus Nord 2T 5G’s AI Highlight Video mode improves the brightness, colour, and contrast of video clips when shooting in backlit environments, uneven lighting, or at nighttime. The AI Highlight Video mode also reduces short and overexposure in the video to deliver more balanced, natural-looking footage. Thanks to the improved computational power of the MediaTek Dimensity 1300 chipset, the OnePlus Nord 2T ^5G can record high frame rate slow-motion videos at up to 960 fps.

On the front, the OnePlus Nord 2T ^5G is fitted with the same 32 MP front-facing sensor as the OnePlus 10 Pro. The selfie camera supports electronic image stabilisation (EIS) and an AI-deblurring algorithm, which improves the clarity and sharpness of photos and videos.

The OnePlus Nord 2T ^5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1300 chipset that offers an octa-core CPU with speeds up to 3 GHz. The MediaTek Dimensity 1300 is manufactured using a 6 nm process, which provides better gaming performance, more efficient power consumption, and better temperature control with HyperEngine 5.0. The MediaTek Dimensity 1300 is accompanied by up to 12 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

Additionally, the OnePlus Nord 2T ^5G supports Wi-Fi/Bluetooth Hybrid 2.0 technology, which not only allows for more consistent data speeds when connected to Wi-Fi networks, but also lowers audio latency when the phone is connected to both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices simultaneously.

The OnePlus Nord 2T ^5G features a 6.43-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 90-Hz refresh rate. With HDR10+ support, users can watch videos from popular streaming applications such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video with richer and more vivid colours. The dual ambient light sensors on the front and back of the OnePlus Nord 2T ^5G automatically adjust the brightness of its display in an accurate and subtle way to best suit your environment for a better, more comfortable visual experience.

The OnePlus Nord 2T ^5G comes pre-installed with OxygenOS 12.1 based on Android™ 12, allowing for better multitasking, improved power consumption, and smoother gallery viewing. The OnePlus Nord 2T ^5G will receive 2 major Android updates and 3 years of security updates.

The OnePlus Nord 2T ^5G measures 8.2 mm in thickness and 190 g in weight, and comes in two colourways – Gray Shadow and Jade Fog. Gray Shadow has a dark sandstone finish with an anti-glare treatment that offers a textured, sanded look with micro-beads that increase the colourway’s resistance to sweat and fingerprints. The Jade Fog variant, on the other hand, has a glossy jade green finish and misty undertones, offering a flashy and elegant aesthetic.

The OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite ^5G is powered by the Snapdragon® 695 5G Mobile Platform that offers an octa-core CPU with speeds up to 2.2 GHz. The chipset is manufactured using a 6 nm fabrication process which helps to deliver energy-efficient performance and is supported by a Qualcomm® Adreno™ 619 GPU that improves performance by up to 30% from the previous generation. Accompanying the chipset is up to 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128 GB of storage.

A large 5,000-mAh battery is fitted inside the OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite ^5G which should be more than sufficient to last common users for a day. Based on internal OnePlus testing, the OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite ^5G can stream YouTube videos for approximately 21 hours or play 23 consecutive 30-minute rounds of PUBG Mobile on a single charge. Charging the OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite ^5G is quick and easy with 33W SUPERVOOC that can refill its battery from 1-50% in just 30 minutes. 33W SUPERVOOC also supports hardware-assisted temperature monitoring, thanks to 9 different sensors on the OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite ^5G that ensure the device stays cool and runs smooth during the charging process.

On the front of the OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite ^5G sits a 6.59-inch FHD+ display with a 120-Hz refresh rate and LCD technology that delivers a smooth and power-efficient viewing experience. The OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite ^5G’s display uses an AI dynamic refresh rate management system that adjusts its refresh rate depending on the type of content being consumed to improve power consumption further.

Besides that, the OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite ^5G supports the HyperBoost Gaming Engine which powers features like General Performance Adapter (GPA) Frame Stabilizer that work to deliver a more stable and responsive gaming experience. GPA Frame Stabilizer aims to reduce frame rate fluctuation when gaming on the OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite ^5G and works to ensure that, if frame rate drops do occur, they do so gradually rather than quickly and dramatically.

The OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite ^5G also comes pre-installed with OxygenOS 12.1 and will be receiving 2 major Android updates and 3 years of security updates.

The OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite ^5G has a triple camera system on its rear headlined by a 64 MP main sensor, offering a large pixel size that allows it to capture sharper, more detailed photos with less blur and noise, particularly in low-light environments. The 64 MP main sensor works in tandem with a 2 MP depth-assist camera to ensure Portrait Mode shots have excellent depth and clarity, with subjects outlined accurately.

The OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite ^5G also supports Nightscape, which works with the device’s 64 MP main camera to capture up to eight shots at varying exposures in an instant and intelligently weaves them together to produce clearer, brighter, and more dramatic photos.

A 16 MP camera with electronic image stabilisation (EIS) is present on the front of the OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite ^5G. EIS helps to reduce blurriness caused by external factors like moving vehicles and shaky hands to take clearer and more stable photos and videos.

With Dual-View Video, the OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite ^5G allows users to record with both its front and rear cameras at the same time (Ed – this is a feature that I really like!).

The OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite 5G comes in two eye-catching fingerprint and smudge-resistant colourways – Blue Tide and Black Dusk. Blue Tide offers a rolling gradient of blue and yellow, while Black Dusk has a dark and stormy matte black finish. The edges of the OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite 5G are flatter which, combined with its slim 8.5 mm build, ensures it is comfortable to hold for long periods, both horizontally and vertically.

The retail pricing of the OnePlus Nord 2T ^5G and the OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite ^5G start at RM1,899 and RM1,199 respectively.

OnePlus Buds Pro and OnePlus Nord Buds

Bringing industry-leading noise cancellation technologies and premium audio to consumers in Malaysia, OnePlus also introduced two OnePlus audio devices at two different price points – the OnePlus Buds Pro (pictured above) and the OnePlus Nord Buds (pictured below).

The OnePlus Buds Pro is the brand’s first smart adaptive noise cancellation (ANC) earbuds. The new, premium, true wireless earbuds feature an industry-leading smart noise reduction system, superior call quality, extended battery performance, and a more personalised sound to create an immersive and premium audio experience.

The OnePlus Nord Buds, on the other hand, expands the Nord product portfolio and philosophy to hearables, at a competitive and accessible price point. Building on community-favourite features, the Nord Buds features 12.4 mm titanium dynamic drivers, supports Dolby Atmos, and offers 30 hours of combined playback on a single charge.

The retail pricing of the OnePlus Buds Pro and the OnePlus Nord Buds start at RM799 and RM299 respectively.
