Chef Masami Okamoto’s 6-Course Special at Iketeru, Hilton Kuala Lumpur

[Hotel/ Dining]

We recently headed over to Iketeru Japanese Restaurant at Hilton Kuala Lumpur to try Chef Masami Okamoto’s special (June 2020) 6-Course Japanese meals. The new menus aim to deliver an authentic Japanese experience to guests and featuring the freshest seasonal Japanese ingredients with prices starting from RM160 nett.

Iketeru has built a reputation among Kuala Lumpur’s elites as one of the best in town for fine, authentic Japanese fare. The restaurant’s Japanese chefs draw on years of experience using only the freshest, highest quality ingredients and seasonal produce, constantly offering guests something new and unique.

Executive Chef Masami Okamoto is a native of Hokkaido, an area renowned for its exceptional seafood. His pre-Iketeru travels span Asia and Europe, a gastronomic odyssey that showcases his rich culinary heritage, precision and flair. He specialised in Cha-Kaiseki, a traditional and artistic meal and his passion lies in crafting Omakase menus.

We tried both special 6-Course Japanese meals by Chef Masami Okamoto. The Kaisen Seafood menu includes Prawn Tempura, three kinds of Sashimi, and Grilled Cod Fish, while the Wagyu beef set includes Wagyu as Shabu-Shabu and a steak.

These seasonal menus are available for lunch and dinner from 3 June to 31 August 2020. During the RMCO period, Iketeru will only be open from Mondays to Fridays (as when this post is published). However, as the situation improves, this might change to more days a week therefore kindly check with the restaurant/ Hilton Kuala Lumpur by calling +603 2264 2264 or email KULHI_FB@hilton.com

Update  19 June 2020 – Iketeru is now open 7 days a week!

Iketeru has two (2) tables for al fresco dining, however as it was a rather warm evening we decided to dine inside in one of the private rooms

Iketeru has a number of private rooms like this one which is suitable for four (4) pax dining with tatami seating
This larger private room can accommodate up to six (6) pax
Our very helpful and friendly wait staff assisted us to take this Insta-friendly photo. In fact, she’s really good at it and knows the perfect angle.

KAISEN SEAFOOD SET

Priced at RM280nett

Kaisen Miso Nabe (Seafood Miso Hot Pot)

This was a really hearty dish with a flavourful broth which is absolutely loaded with seafood, cod and salmon!

3 kinds of Sashimi

Very fresh and served with (real) freshly-grated wasabi.

Chawan mushi (Japanese egg custard)

Gindara Sio yaki /Teriyaki (Grilled Cod fish)

Absolutely beautifully cooked with a lovely caramelisation of the sauce.

Prawn Tempura

Nice and crispy! I enjoyed this with some Asahi Super Dry! Match made in heaven with the beer’s clean karakuchi styled flavours matching the savoury flavours of the tempura.

3 pcs Nigiri Sushi

Ice Cream

Select from three (3) flavours. We opted for the green tea and roasted black sesame flavours. She had the green tea ice cream which she really enjoyed while I had the roasted sesame which I thought had lots of lovely earthy flavours!

WAGYU BEEF SET

Priced at RM320nett

Wagyu Shabu-Shabu

Lovely pink slices of wagyu (she said too pink for her but I absolutely love my beef pink and rare/ medium rare so this was perfect for me) which were so tender and flavourful! This was my first time having wagyu shabu-shabu style and I was very impressed!

Kaiso Salad (Seaweed Salad)

Chawan mushi (Japanese Egg Custard)

Wagyu Steak Sio yaki or Shoga yaki with Salad (Salt or Ginger sauce)

We opted for the Wagyu steak which came with a flavourful sauce made out of many ingredients (which I was surprised to hear was mostly vegetables)! This was simply gorgeous and I took my time to enjoy this one, paired with some sake to cut to the richness of the beef. If you like beef, I highly recommend this set (especially with the AMAZING credit card discount!).

Garlic Fried rice

Ice Cream

Wow! I was certainly very full after eating the set! Like really really full and I can eat a lot. This promotions is pretty popular with diners as the restaurant was at full (reduced to follow the SOP) capacity therefore I highly recommend booking ahead to avoid disappointment.
