[Hotel/ Dining]
Runy and I headed over to Hilton Petaling Jaya recently for a preview of the Japanese Premium Beef promotion at the hotel’s award-winning Japanese restaurant – Genji. The Japanese Premium Beef promotion is back for the third time, by popular demand, and will feature an all-new selection of halal high-end cuts of beef.
The promotion will run from 3 September to 31 October 2019, offering a selection of four different types of premium beef imported from Japan starting from RM360 nett. Miyazaki is 100% purebred Wagyu that comes from the “Japanese Black” cow. It gained fame when it won first place at the Wagyu Olympics three consecutive times.
Widely known as Japan’s finest and most expensive steak, Matsusaka is famous for its high fat content and unique marbling pattern. The exclusive beef boasts rich flavour, a melt-in-your-mouth sensation and extremely tender texture. Nishiawa beef comes from various local Japanese farms and the first halal dedicated slaughter house in Tokushima.
You can also opt for the general Wagyu as in introduction to Japanese beef – the beef is really tender with its generous amount of marbling and distinct flavour.
Apart from the doneness of the steak, you can also choose from four different authentic flavours and methods of cooking. Shioyaki is one of the most popular and simple methods where the meat is grilled with salt to bring out the natural flavours of the dish. Teriyaki is a familiar choice to many, where a sweet flavour is concocted from soy and sugar. Misoyaki uses soybean paste as a marinade, creating a light and mellow flavour. Suitable for those who prefer more flavour and moisture in their steak, Teppanyaki tastes sweet and salty from ingredients like pepper and butter.

I really enjoyed the premium cuts of beef, while the non-beef dishes were pretty good as well. In my book Genji definitely ranks as one of the best Japanese restaurants in Malaysia outside Kuala Lumpur city.
Located on level 1 of the East Wing, Genji is open daily from 12pm – 2:30pm for lunch on weekdays and Saturdays. Dinner is from 6:30pm – 10:30pm on weekdays and Sundays, and 6pm – 10:30pm on Saturdays.
A special 25% discount is available for Hilton Dining APAC members and a 15% discount for selected credit cardholders.
