La Maison Remy Martin Kuala Lumpur 2019

We had a really good time at the La Maison Remy Martin Kuala Lumpur 2019 media launch on 1 July 2019 (which you can read about here – https://timchew.net/2019/07/03/la-maison-remy-martin-kuala-lumpur-2019/) so much so that we returned for a consumer session on 3 July 2019.

Of course, the brand pulled out all the bells and whistles for the media launch, however, I must say that the consumer session was pretty enjoyable as well so kudos to Remy Martin for providing their consumers with a memorable and luxurious experience as well as some insights into their brand.

Guestshift Series with Boris Ivan – Gonzalez Byass Global Ambassador

Naomi and I caught up with Boris Ivan at Mezze in Medan Damansara on 27 June 2019 for the Guestshift Series featuring London No.1 Gin. I first met Boris last year (which you can read here – https://timchew.net/2018/11/15/cocktails-with-boris-ivan-gonzalez-byass-international-brand-ambassador-spirits/) and as his cocktail creations were just so mezmerising (and I’m NOT even a cocktail drinker), I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to try some of his new creations!

Naomi enjoying her London No.1 gin cocktail
Boris is a really affable global ambassador and one heck of a talented mixologist!
His knowledge of his products as well as current industry trends was very insightful
As he is the global ambassador, he is very well travelled and thus has no shortage of entertaining tales to share!
A classic gin and tonic – very refreshing on a hot day!

Hugo’s Kuala Lumpur at Hotel Ramada KLCC

Recently headed over to Hugo’s Kuala Lumpur which is located at Ramada Hotel KLCC to have dinner with my cousin from Australia and her hubby who were in town for a couple of days. Hugo’s KL replaces the spot which previously was occupied by Hubba Hubba (which was under the Souled Out Group) and now functions as the hotel’s all-day-dining restaurant and bar.

The bar serves draught beers (Carlsberg, Connor’s, Asahi), liquor, wines, and cocktails

Margarita – RM28.00

My cousin commented that it was pretty well-balanced

Cajun Spice Chicken Salad – RM26.00

Served with Mixed Greens, Lettuce & Eggs

Salmon Avocado Salad – Rm28.00

Served with Capsicum, Kalamata Olives, Balsamic & Tomato Salsa

Serunding Fries – RM15.00

This was a dish that was so popular during Hugo’s KL’s buka puasa menu that they decided to include this into the regular menu. It went very well with my ice-cold Carlsberg draught.

Lamb Madras – RM23.00

Delicious and flavourful lamb curry served with roti, raita, papadum, and chutney! This was a delightful dish and one of my fav’s of the evening!

Chef Din’s Signature Pasta – RM45.00

Mixed Seafood & Spaghetti In Spicy Tomato Sauce served in a claypot

Australian Grilled Striploin – RM65.00

Served With Pumpkin Puree, Mesculin Mix & Parmesan Shavings

Chicken Rendang Pizza – Rm28.00

Freshly Baked With Spicy Chicken Stew & Coconut Milk

We opted to go for non-traditional pizza toppings (Hugo’s KL does have pizzas with traditional and mainstream toppings) and this proved to be a really inspired choice as this pizza was one of the best I’ve had! The flavourful rendang (NOT crispy rendang ya!) topped with loads of cheese proved to be one of the best dishes of the night!

Tiramisu – Rm24.00

Traditional Italian Favourite Served With Almond & Fresh Strawberry

Ladies always have extra space for dessert!

Chocolate Fudge – RM24.00

Served With Berries & Chocolate Syrup

A very decadent end to the meal! This one was incredibly rich and chocolaty!

Hugo’s KL has some pretty decent happy hour deals for draught beers running daily from 6.00pm to 9.00pm. If you’re in the area during lunchtime, they have various lunch sets feariong Asian and Western selections that come with soup, muffin and iced lemon tea, priced at RM23.00 and available from 12 PM to 2 PM.

On Wednesday nights, there a live band from 8.00 PM till late, while Thursdays is Ladies Night where ladies get three (3) hours free flow of wine & beer for 3 hours if you arrived before 9.30pm. On Fridays, Hugo’s KL has their Salsa Night with lessons by Gupson Pierre for beginners and intermediate dancers from 8.30pm onwards followed by social dancing.

Hugo’s Kuala Lumpur is located at:

Carlsberg Introduces New Look for their Beer

Carlsberg gets a refreshed identity together with new beer-enjoyment experience improvements and exciting consumer promotions in July. Carlsberg’s refreshed Danish inspired brand identity, which balances simplicity with contemporary design, is applied across its products, packaging, communications, visibilities and amenities to deliver a better beer experience for consumers.

The brand’s new look and feel is most visible on its packaging, coupled with practical improvements, that sees a new Fresh Cap on Carlsberg bottles, the same great brew served in premium-looking stem glasses, and cans that come in Easy-to-Open packs. These “betterments” are a result of Carlsberg’s efforts and belief in constant improvement and refinement in progressive pursuit of better beer.

Ted Akiskalos, Managing Director of Carlsberg Malaysia, commented, “At Carlsberg, we care about how our beer is made and enjoyed, a constant ‘pursuit of better’ inspired by our founder J.C. Jacobsen throughout our history of more than 170 years. From our yeast and barley to our packaging and glassware, we believe it must always be possible to do things better, hence the introduction of a new look and feel for Carlsberg that represents our ongoing commitment to do so.”

“Loyal Carlsberg drinkers can rest assured that while the brand looks modern and new, our beer is still brewed with the same natural ingredients and same attention to quality that gives Carlsberg that same great taste. Carlsberg just keeps getting better with its new look, but same great brew!” added Akiskalos.

Carlsberg is also out to reward its fans with a nationwide consumer promotion from July to September 2019, allowing them the opportunity to win the chance to become Probably The Best Beer Master!  Not only are winners entitled to an all-expenses-paid trip to the Carlsberg Malaysia’s brewery, they also get to bring along a friend and go through an informative Art of Beer session towards being Probably The Best Beer Master that comes with a certificate upon completion. Best of all, winners get to enjoy one year’s supply of free Carlsberg (12 cartons of 24x 320ml cans).

For Carlsberg bottles enjoyed at restaurants and coffeeshops, simply check the underside of the bottle cap for a chance to win the grand prize to be Probably The Best Beer Master. Consumers can also collect 24 bottle caps to get a limited-edition Carlsberg T-shirt, or 12 bottle caps to get one 320ml Carlsberg can. This promotion will run from 1 to 31 July 2019 in Peninsular Malaysia and 1 to 31 August 2019 in Sabah & Sarawak.

Between 1 to 31 August 2019, Carlsberg drinkers enjoying draught and bottled beer at participating bars, pubs and bistros will get gift cards for a chance to be Probably The Best Beer Master. You can also get a limited-edition Carlsberg T-shirt which comes in two collectible designs for every 10 gift cards collected. Meanwhile, every purchase of two bottles or cans of Carlsberg at convenience stores between 1 August to 30 September 2019 will also give you a chance to win simply by snapping and sending their receipt as a proof of purchase.

What are Carlsberg’s new “betterments”?

FRESHER (更保鲜)
For Carlsberg in bottles, Carlsberg created a cleverly-designed Fresh Cap that removes oxygen from the headspace in the bottle for a fresher taste for 5x longer!

BETTER (更优良)
The new Carlsberg stem glasses come engraved with a hop leaf-shaped nucleation stamp at the bottom, which generates more foam, helping to retain the aroma for longer.

EASIER (更方便)
For Carlsberg in cans, Carlsberg improved the pack with an Easy to Open feature.
