[Valentine’s Day]

We recently headed over to Gobo Upstairs Lounge and Grill at Traders Hotel Kuala Lumpur to try out their upcoming Valentine’s Day menu which features a 6-course dinner, priced at RM550 nett per couple.

6-course Valentine’s Dinner @ Gobo Upstairs Lounge and Grill, Level 6
Priced at RM550nett per couple which is inclusive of 2 glasses of prosecco
Pacific Oysters
with caviar, lemon essence
You know what they say about oysters and virility…
The prosecco which comes with the dinner set went great with this. Oysters and bubbly are a match made in heaven.
Appetizer
Seafood Mosaic
with marinated scallops, shrimps, smoked salmon, crab, avocado, cilantro dressing
This was both a gorgeous and tasty appetiser with a mix of flavours and textures. The seafood tartare was absolutely lovely with the scallop, smoked salmon, crab and avocado, while the fried shrimp added an additional dimension to the dish. The cilantro dressing was barely needed but added some herb flavours to round out the dish.
Insider tip – Have this with some white wine (order a la carte from the drinks menu which has a good selection of both red and white house wines featuring different varietals)

Soup
Chicken Consomme Soup crispy chicken wonton with spicy fragrant oil
The soup was poured tableside to add some dramatic effect. After the richness of the previous dish, Chef Mun opted to go with a light but extremely flavourful chicken consomme with a duo of crispy chicken wontons. A fusion of Eastern and Western style here as the soup is NOT Chinese style aka double boiled but rather a French style, but using traditional Chinese ingredients. It worked very well though and resulted in a
Insider tip – I suggest eating the wontons immediately to enjoy them in a crispy state before you enjoy the consomme. BTW you’ll get a whole pot of consomme to share however I’d suggest that you don’t finish it unless you’re an exceptionally big eater as there’s still the mains and dessert to come.
Lime and Lemon Sorbet
Main Course (Choice of)
Pan Seared Cod Fish with petite vegetables, potato fondant, sorrel cream
The fish was very fresh and flaky, and perfectly cooked! I also loved the potato fondant however the outstanding element of the dish for me was the sorrel cream which added a lovely herbed creaminess to the dish and pretty much went with all the ingredients on the plate. Being a person who appreciates tasty sauces (but not the bottled commercial kind you buy in supermarkets), I almost wanted to ask for more!
Or
Rack of Lamb
with Garlic and Herbs curried couscous, garlic puree, asparagus, mint yogurt
Oh my! This was my pick as Dish of the Night! A beautifully and I mean beautifully cooked to medium rare perfection rack of lamb with a garlic and herbs crust. (Do not order your lamb anything above medium rare unless you want a chunk of rubber.) The lamb was tender, juicy and flavourful with even more flavours coming from the crust! The addition of the couscous and mint yogurt gave this dish some Middle Eastern influence. It is one of the most memorable dishes (besides the wagyu tomahawk and the lobster) that I’ve had at Gobo Upstairs and indeed one of the most memorable lamb dishes I’ve ever eaten anywhere.

Dessert
Raspberry Petit Gateau
raspberry, mille-feullie, mousse, red velvet soil, pavlova, mix berries compote, edible white chocolate candle
This one came with the edible candle lit (you can see the flame if you look closely) and Chef Mun informed us that we could eat the candle (but not the core which was the wick of course) which was made of white chocolate. Cut open the heart for a “bloody” surprise but I suggest you have your phones ready to capture what comes out of it! A sweet and extremely photogenic and Instagrammable ending to a wonderful meal.
There are also two (2) other Valentine’s Day menu’s available at Traders Hotel Kuala Lumpur this Valentine’s Day.
