[Review]
TTDI has become quite the hub for an eclectic mix of food and beverage and night entertainment outlets in the Klang Valley. The good variety of restaurants featuring fare from different cultures attracts many diners to the suburb which is a far cry from the times when I used to live there (we used to only have a KFC, Pizza Hut, couple of Chinese coffeeshops and some Indian mamaks). Among the notable ones is the cat cafe, a bicycle themed cafe, a cafe selling salted egg cronuts, a Chinese Muslim restaurant, and a new speakeasy bar called The Pawn Room. I was quite intrigued by the name and thus I decided to check it out one weekday evening with Kathy in tow.
As The Pawn Room is speakeasy bar and does not serve food, we decided to start our evening next door at Private Room which is also owned by the same proprietors who own The Pawn Room. Private Room is more of a speakeasy wine bar which has no signage but to find it simply look for the address then the yellow grill door on the ground floor, then head up the stairs to the bar which is located on the first floor.

Iberico Collar – RM38
Pan Seared Iberico Collar With Truffled Oil & Balsamic Vinegar Served with Salad
This was incredibly tasty and addictive especially for a pork lover like myself! I really couldn’t stop eating it the pieces of Iberico collar which has a nice crunchy texture with a whiff of truffle oil (just a little as not to overpower the dish).
We paired the awesome Iberico with a merlot.
Quail Hunter – RM18
Crab Cake Stuffed With Quail Egg
A modified version of Scotch Eggs which was not too bad actually.
Under the Sea – RM28/ RM38
Fried Seafood Platter: Ebi Tempura, Crab Cake, Fish Finger, Calamari Ring
Served with Special House Dip
This was a sharing platter that’s good for 2 – 3 pax. The savoury seafood goes great with the special house dip and with drinks.
We paired the seafood platter with the Wairau River Chardonnay 2014
Run! Chicken Run! – RM15
Chicken Karaage
This one is excellent beer food and also a worthy snack to go along with other types of alcohol.
.
Private Room is a good place to go if you’re looking to have some wine with some light food in a cosy environment (with absolutely no windows!).
.
Private Room is located at:
48a-2 (First Floor), Persiaran Zaaba,
Taman Tun Dr Ismail,

Malaysia.

Then it was over to The Pawn Room which is on the top floor of the lot next door to Private Room.
While Private Room is meant to be more low-key and more of a comfortable lounge to relax in, The Pawn Room was designed to be pretty much the opposite with its ostentatious designs! Featuring somewhat of an early 20th century China design, the bar is divided into four (4) different sections.

If you’re familiar with speakeasys in Kuala Lumpur, you’d recognise some familiar faces behind the bar
Liang Moi – RM40
Captain Morgan, Macaroon syrup, Pineapple juice, Lime juice, housemade pandan syrup, Egg white, housemade pandan cream
.
Ming Hua (RM 40)
Tanqueray 10, Raspberry puree, Elderflower syrup, Pineapple juice, Lemon juice, Egg white “garden”. A gin based cocktail with berries, sweet and sour tipple.
.
Night In Caribbean ( RM 40)
Angostura 5, Ricard, Cacao White, Passionfruit syrup, Lime juice, Egg White

.
.
Then it was time for an off the menu drink that’s more for a whisky lover like me!
.
Smoky Old Fashioned – RM40
A cocktail that’s not on the menu so just order it from the bartenders. Best if you see them make it yourself as it’s quite an interesting sight to behold.

Now why is it called the Pawn Room? Because you can pawn an item or service every Wednesday evening (although I do suggest you check their Facebook page for updates on this) for a cocktail or cocktails depending on the value of the item/ service.
