Smile Makers Launched in Malaysia
I’ve long been a customer of Lazada, actually since it was launched in Malaysia years ago. I like the wide variety of products and models available on the site, AND most importantly – the discounts! Through the years, I’ve purchased two (2) LED TVs as well as computer accessories such as external harddisks. Buying on the site was really simple and you had various payment options such a debit from your bank account, credit card and even cash on delivery. I usually opted for online payment as I don’t like carrying large amounts of cash with me.
Lazada is mostly known for its electronic goods but do you know that there are a host of other items that you can also purchase on the site? Categories include home and living, home appliances, watches, eyewear, jewellery, fashion, luggage, sports, automotive, baby, toys, books and even health and beauty.
Now as I manage the digital media community Malaysia’s Hottest Bloggers of which all 60+ members are females with the exception of our official photographer Andy Kho and myself, I know full well that a happy girl is definitely more productive than one who is frustrated and moody.
A big contributing factor to a happy emotional state is of course good sexual health and wellbeing and I recently attended the launch of a new range of products from Smile Makers which are newly available on Lazada!
Smile Makers? Is that some sort of dental whitening product? Or perhaps an electric toothbrush?
Well no it isn’t but before I get to what it is, let’s have a look at the results of the “Malaysian women sexual health and wellbeing” survey which was sponsored by Smile Makers. The survey was conducted to investigate what Malaysian women think of their sex life and how they are sexually satisfied.
- 65% of Malaysian women are sexually satisfied.
- 73% of Malaysian women feel they are in control of their sexual satisfaction.
- 68% of Malaysian women feel sexual satisfaction is important.
- 79% of Malaysian women talk about sex openly as well as their own sex lives with their partners and female friends.
- 9 out of 10 Malaysian women view women who own a vibrator positively and neutrally, thinking them to be open to new experiences and fun & spontaneous.
- 78% of Malaysian women have experienced dryness-related pain during sex, negatively affecting their sexual satisfaction.
- 58% of Malaysian women have used a personal lubricant, which is higher than other Asian countries.
- Over half of women in Malaysia are more open to either using, or the idea of trying out a vibrator than many Asian and European counterparts.
- Three-quarters of Malaysian women consider the ingredients in lubricant products before purchasing them.
Now I was very surprised to find out that Malaysian women have the highest level of sexual satisfaction of countries surveyed in Asia and Europe.
Wow! We Malaysian men must be very good (or so I thought)! The expert panel would soon shed some light on my assumption though.
On the panel of experts were Professor Dr. Low Wah Yun (PhD, AFBPsS, FBSCH, CPsychol), who is a Professor of Psychology and Head, Research Management Centre, and Professor Dr. Jamiyah Binti Hassan who is a Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya. Together with Mr. Mattias Hulting, the co-founder of Ramblin’ Brands, the maker of Smile Makers, the panel shared some of the results of the survey and while tackling the issue of female sexual health from a medical perspective.
The findings were quite a surprise to many at the press conference including myself considering the prevailing conservative perceptions Malaysian women may have of themselves, or the perceptions others may have of them.
- 68% of Malaysian women are sexually satisfied.
- This is significantly higher than Asia and European countries – Singapore 45%, Hong Kong 53%, UK 28%.
- 73% of Malaysian women feel they are in control of their sexual satisfaction.
Malaysian women feel sexual satisfaction is important, and there are many emotional and physical advantages associated with sexual wellbeing.
- Malaysian women feel that a healthy sex life contributes to the emotional and physical wellbeing of women, including factors such as feeling loved (95%), happy (92%), attractive (83%), less stressed (83%), beautiful (77%) and healthy (61%).
- 68% of Malaysian women feel sexual satisfaction is important, this is significantly higher than our neighbors in Singapore (47%), but still behind some European counterparts such as France (88%).
Apart from the high level of sexual satisfaction that Malaysian women experience, the survey also unveiled another surprising fact i.e. that Malaysian women were open-minded to express their views on sexual related matters.
- 79% of Malaysian women talk about sex in general as well as their own sex lives with their partners and female friends.
- 9 out of 10 Malaysian women view women who own a vibrator positively or neutrally, thinking those women are open to new experiences and fun and spontaneous.
“Malaysian women are open-minded to embrace sexual related issues and they feel that they are in control of their sex life. Achieving orgasms – with or without a partner – can relieve stress and anxiety due to the release of endorphins, a feel-good hormone.” Professor Dr. Low Wah Yun explained.
However, 8 out of 10 (78%) Malaysian women have experienced dryness-related pain during sex, which negatively affected their sexual satisfaction.
- This is very similar across Asian and European countries such as Hong Kong (75%), Taiwan (88%), and UK (79%).
Again, Malaysian women are ahead of their Asian counterparts when it comes to taking charge of their sexual wellbeing, and solving dryness-related issues.
- 58% of Malaysian women have used a personal lubricant, compared to only 38% in Taiwan and 35% in Hong Kong. Most of this use is to ease discomfort and pain caused by dryness.
- Malaysian women take great care of what products they use on their most sensitive skin. Three-quarters of women consider the ingredients in lubricant products before purchase.
“It’s common for stressed, post-natal, post-menopausal women to have dryness-related pain during sex. Lubricants can help to ease the discomfort. The use of water-based, paraben-free and pharma-grade ingredients are important when choosing lubricants. Water-based lubricants will be ideal as they are less sticky and are easy to wash-off. What’s more, high purity ingredients that are used in water based lubricant make it safer to use.” Professor Dr. Jamiyah advised.
Therefore, to address the issues faced by women, Smile Makers was officially launched in Malaysia, with a range personal massagers and premium lubricants that are designed to enhance the sexual wellbeing of women in Malaysia. The brand first launched its personal massagers in Europe in 2013, and is currently available through a network of over 4,000 health and beauty stores in ten European and Asian markets with Lazada Malaysia being the latest.
Mr. Mattias Hulting, the co-founder of Ramblin’ Brands shared, “The survey results are truly amazing- showing that Malaysia is a very different country in actuality when it comes to sexual wellbeing than how it perceives itself. It is much more open, and the reward is a higher level of satisfaction and happiness.”
“The survey shows that over half of women in Malaysia are either using, or open to the idea of trying out a vibrator. Over half of non-users would be open to try a vibrator (52%), making them much more open to the idea than many European countries, including Belgium (37%), Switzerland (31%), France (32%).” Mr. Mattias Hulting added.
Mr. Mattias Hulting further stressed, “Making female-friendly products is part of our brand promise, and safety and quality are at the top of this commitment. We’re glad to see that three-quarters of Malaysian women consider the ingredients in lubricant products before purchasing them, because this is a valid concern. Any woman who is mindful about what products she applies to her face, should be mindful about what she applies to the most sensitive part of her body. On top of being completely paraben-free and fragrance-free, Smile Makers personal lubricants are water-based, pH-optimal and contain strictly pharmaceutical-grade ingredients with 99.5% purity. Sexual satisfaction should not be compromised by concerns around product quality or adverse reactions.”
I actually managed to catch Mr. Mattias Hulting for a quick chat during the launch and as both of us share similarities in that both our products are very female oriented (all the bloggers and social media influencers in Malaysia’s Hottest Bloggers are female) we discussed the challenges we faced.
Mr. Mattias shared that he wanted his products to be positioned in such a manner that his mother would be comfortable walking into a pharmacy and purchasing one of them. This was a point that I felt was most important about the products besides it being made out of high-quality and safe materials. I too often face the issue of proper business ethics in my industry and providing a service that always adheres to that is not easy.
Smile Makers personal massagers are produced alongside some of the world’s leading electronics brands in a static-free environment – all products are completely waterproof, phthalate-free, and made with super-smooth, 100% body-safe, FDA-approved silicone. They have been awarded some of the world’s most creative, prestigious prizes, including the Cannes Lions (France), D&AD (UK), One Show (US), and AWARD (Australia). Smile Makers – The Fireman actually beat iPhone at the D&AD international awards in London.
The Smile Makers come in four (4) different designs and are inspired by four fun personalities – The Fireman, The Frenchman, The Tennis Coach, and The Millionaire (left to right).
The Fireman and The Frenchman are made for external stimulation, while The Tennis Coach and The Millionaire are made for internal stimulation.
Here are the very creative product descriptions:
The Fireman – He knows his way around a fiery situation and he’s mighty skilled at cooling things down.
The Frenchman – A cunning linguist, he may speak in a foreign tongue but he sure knows what he’s talking about.
The Tennis Coach – He’s sculpted and fit, with a forehand stroke designed to take very specific aim.
The Millionaire – A classic gentleman and an all-rounder, he’s here to pleasure you like the princess you are.
The formulation of Smile Makers personal lubricants is inspired by the world of luxury skin care. This includes a natural plant extract, which acts as a natural anti-irritant and regenerates the skin, and a new ingredient imported from France which helps create smooth slipperiness and a silky feeling after use.
Smile Makers personal lubricants are water-based, pH-optimal and use strictly the highest purity of ingredients available. The full range is completely paraben free and fragrance free, and also compatible with condoms and any silicone massager.
The packaging looks very premium and would fit right in at any skincare counter. In fact, looking at it from afar, you’d think it was a toner.
LITTLE LIGHT LIQUID – This lubricant is formulated for a natural sensation.
STAY SILKY SERUM – Silky and soft, this soothing lubricant nourishes for a smoother, velvety feel.
GENEROUS GEL – Rich and luxurious textured, this ultra-sensorial lubricant provides the right amount of cushioning.
Personally, I think this product will even help couples as the massagers can be used during foreplay, while the lubricants can be used when needed. It’s very refreshing to see a brand come up with products that will actually enhance the lives of users…what more in more ways than one!
