Chili’s has been around in the USA starting as a hamburger joint in Dallas, Texas nearly 40 years ago, and since then has grown to nearly 1,600 locations in 31 countries around the world. The Chili’s menu has grown over the years to include a distinct mix of Southwestern-inspired, classic American and international flavours and is a place where you can enjoy juicy burgers, ice-cold beer and margaritas.
I remember that Chili’s used to be one of my favourite restaurants when I was in college, and we used to go there to celebrate special occasions like birthdays. Now years on, I still go to Chili’s now and then for happy hour or to get my fix of Tex-Mex dishes.
Chili’s currently has a special seasonal menu called the Chili’s Chef Cuts to give a more premium choice for patrons for the year end. This limited time menu also caters for those who appreciate steaks, and they invited myself along with some of my Malaysia’s Hottest Bloggers girls over to try their new offerings!

We had my all-time favourite appetizer before we tried the new menu. This used to be called the Triple Play but now it is known as the Tripple Dipper where you can combine your three (3) favourite appetizers. Choose from Chicken Crispers, Wings Over Buffalo, southwestern Eggrolls, Craft Burger Bites or Spiced Breaded Onion Rings. This dish is served with fresh celery sticks and lovely dipping sauces, and if there’s any balance of sauce left I use it to go with my other dishes. Heck if they bottled and sold it I would be the first customer!

4 oz. salmon on slaw drizzled with honey-chipotle sauce, 8 oz. beef ribs on mashed potatoes drizzled with Chili’s classic BBQ sauce, and grilled 4 oz. chicken breast on corn salsa drizzled with roasted garlic BBQ sauce, all sprinkled with crumbled feta cheese and chopped fresh cilantro.
This one is best for those who can’t decide what to eat. I’m not really one for chicken breast but I enjoyed the tender beef ribs which were topped with BBQ sauce.

8 oz. fillet resting on a bed of corn salsa, topped with beef ribs meat and pickled onions, sprinkled with crumbled feta cheese and chopped fresh cilantro. Served with the new skillet mashed potatoes.
Beef topped with more beef! This steak had some refreshing flavours thanks to the cilantro and pickled onions while the corn salsa added some crunch.

8 oz. fillet resting on bed of slaw, covered with spicy crab meat and melted Monterey Jack cheese, sprinkled with crumbled feta cheese and chopped fresh cilantro. Served with the new skillet macaroni and cheese.
This was the first time I had crab meat with a steak but it was like a nice topping which added some contrast in flavour and texture, while the lovely Monterey Jack cheese was lovely and gooey on top! The topping also had rich flavours thanks to the feta cheese while the fresh cilantro prevented it from becoming overly rich. The mac and cheese was very hearty side!
We ordered our steaks medium and medium rare to see the difference, and also because some of the girls didn’t really like to eat steaks that are too rare. However being the carnivore that I am, I decided to order one rare and see what came out and to my delight the rare steak came out the juiciest and most tender of the lot although rather pink but hey – that’s the way to enjoy a good cut of beef!

8 oz. fillet resting on bed of corn salsa, topped with glazed prawns, sprinkled with crumbled feta cheese and chopped fresh cilantro. Served with the new skillet macaroni and cheese.
Another surf and turf option but this time with juicy prawns.

8 oz. fillet resting on bed of coleslaw, covered with melted chipotle bleu cheese, sprinkled with chopped fresh cilantro. Served with the new skillet mashed potatoes.
We could smell this one a mile away before it came to our table! Good thing I can eat basically all types of cheeses so I didn’t even hesitate to tuck into this one. Now the gooey topping on top is the melted chipotle bleu cheese and it basically permeates the whole steak so only order this steak if YOU LIKE BLUE CHEESE as the taste is strong, pungent and salty. Even for blue cheese lovers, I’d suggest that you share this dish as it can saturate your palate pretty fast. Perhaps order a lighter dish with some tangy or piquant flavours to cut through the salty richness of this dish.

Layers of chocolate chipotle cheesecake and cracker crumbs topped with a dollop of whipped cream.
This was actually quite nice! Not as sweet as I imagined it would be.

Stephanie trying to tempt me with the dessert which I eventually tried a bit. I’m not really a big fan of desserts.
I quite enjoyed the new steaks from this menu and I hope Chili’s will come up with some new offering often! If you like your steaks medium rare (like I do), try ordering them rare and they will arrive just perfect! Don’t worry, it won’t be a bloody mess and if it is a little too rare for your liking you can always get the kitchen to cook it a little more (you can’t reverse the process on an overcooked steak).
The Chili’s Chef Cuts special menu is available from now until 17 January 2016 only so do head over to try it now!
There’s also an Instagram contest which could win you some cash vouchers at Chili’s!
