Headed over to Imperial Garden in Petaling Jaya for the preview of Tai Thong Group’s Chinese New Year preview celebrating the start of the Year of Goat. This year, Tai Thong is offering authentic Cantonese cuisine at all Tai Thong restaurants.
Golden Treasure Poon Choy
Group Executive Chef Lee Wee Hong has created Golden Treasure Poon Choy, which infuses the traditional Poon Choy with a contemporary Szechuan-inspired twist, using a sour and spicy sauce as its base. This was the most unique Poon Choy that I’ve tasted to date and I must say that I really enjoyed the sour and spicy sauce which really complemented the fresh ingredients such as fish maw, sea cucumber, squid, dried scallops, tiger prawn and dried oyster, to name a few.
The Golden Treasure Poon Choy is priced at RM298.00++ for 5 pax and RM498.00++ for 10 pax. Takeaway is also available, and Tai Thong advises you to order in advance (takeaway/ dining at the restaurant).
Golden Fortune Yee Sang
The 2014 healthy fruit-flavoured yee sang was so popular that Tai Thong bring it back for the 2015 celebration with additional features such as sliced fresh star fruit, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds (which is a superfood!) and black sesame, to add more flavour and texture to the dish. I really enjoyed this dish and it was a juicy and healthy start to the meal.
Double Happiness Yee Sang
Also available is the Double Happiness Yee Sang which is a Japanese-inspired, crispy and crunchy yee sang with added golden chicken floss and crispy Enoki mushrooms.
Both the Tai Thong Double Happiness Yee Sang & Golden Fortune Yee Sang are available in half or full portions, priced at RM68.00++ (half portion) and RM98.00++ (full portion) respectively.
Mini Eight Treasures Rice
“Ba bao fan” has been served during Chinese New Year celebrations in China for over 2,000 years and Tai Thong brings this classic sticky and sweet dessert to our shores for the first time. The Mini Eight Treasures Rice is made of glutinous rice, pumpkin, lotus seeds, raisins, dried apricots, red and green cherries, and you complete it by drizzling some Osmanthus syrup over it. This one is for sharing among three to four pax as the glutinous rice is pretty filling. First time I tried this and I thought it was pretty nice.
The Mini Eight Treasures Rice is priced at RM9.80++ per serving.
Sesame Ball with “Nian Gao” and Red Bean Paste
Tai Thong has a different take on the classic ‘Nian Gao’, with the sesame-coated glutinous rice dumplings filled with both velvety soft red bean paste and homemade classic ‘Nian Gao’. I really liked this one and I could have easily finished half the plate…
Each portion of six (6) pieces is priced at RM13.80++.
Tai Thong’s Chinese New Year Set Menus run from now until 5 March 2015 and are priced between RM498.00++ to RM1488.00++ for 6 pax and RM798.00++ to RM2398.00++ for 10 pax.
For any 10 pax set menu chosen, Tai Thong is also giving out complimentary bottles of 640ml Asahi Beer.
