Lenovo launched their new YOGA 3 Pro and YOGA Tablet 2 at PLAY Club in The Roof, First Avenue Bandar Utama on 5 November 2014. Now as I was there the night before for the Veuve Cliquot party at Stratosphere one of my media friends remarked that I should have just stayed over. Well Roen and Dax if you’re reading this, perhaps you should make some hospitality suites for your guests to stay over ha ha! Anyway back to the matter at hand.
Lenovo is ranked no.1 worldwide in the PC market, holding around 20% of market share and I think it’s due to the fact that over the last two (2) years they have been pretty aggressive and bold, engaging Ashton Kutcher and Kobe Bryant as their spokespersons, and coming up with new models with out of the box features such as the Yoga series.
Now the Yoga 2 Pro was already a really thin and light machines but the new 13-inch YOGA 3 Pro is dramatically thinner and lighter than its predecessors, and features a new stylish and sturdy watchband hinge. The YOGA Tablet 2 Pro comes with a built-in tablet-projector, and 8 watts of sound including a subwoofer – a first for a tablet.
“Many consumers loved the YOGA design and its unique features – for both PC and tablet. To continue evolving the YOGA range as a truly adaptable, intelligent device was a natural step. We wanted to give users a more compact machine with innovative features that will truly adapt to the user giving them the best experiences ever,” said Khoo Hung Chuan, Country General Manager, Lenovo Malaysia.
He continued, “The new Lenovo YOGA 3 Pro’s design is an outstanding example of the innovation we are seeing in 2-in-1 systems, while the YOGA Tablet 2 Pro is the culmination of the most extensive research and feedback we’ve ever undertaken. As a result, we’ve preserved the best features of the original YOGA Tablet – the modes and the long battery life.”
Country Manager, Intel Malaysia and Singapore, Sumner Lemon shared, “Intel processors offer unparalleled performance and a great user experience. With our 4th Generation Intel® CoreTM processors, customers are spoiled for choice with a wide range of devices that offer amazing battery life, stunning graphics, touch screens, and a choice of beautiful, sleek and light designs.” Lemon continued, “Intel-based 2 in 1s, like the Lenovo YOGA, are the best way to get a lot done in the shortest time. While tasks such as booking a vacation or filling out a spreadsheet are more easily done in a PC-like environment, these devices can also be converted into a tablet for surfing the Internet or watching videos.”
YOGA Tablet 2 Pro
The Yoga Tablet 2 Pro was developed with Ashton Kutcher, who joined Lenovo as a product engineer a year ago, and is designed to elevate media experience with its built-in Pico projector. The projector lets users turn walls into an instant 50” screen by simply placing the tablet 2 meters away in a dark room. The projector has automatic image adjustment and up to three hours playback time, while the enhanced audio system provides 8 watts of sound, from its dual, large-chamber front-facing speakers, and a subwoofer on the back provides the deep bass notes. The Dolby® Audio and Wolfson® Master HiFi™ provides users with a multi-channel listening experience.
The display is a QHD 2560×1440 screen that provides life-like images, and while most people are familiar with the tablet’s 3 modes – hold, tilt and stand, there’s now a fourth mode – Hang. Users can simply hanging it anywhere they want, especially useful when watching movies! While loaded with lots of useful features, the tablet remains thin and light at just 3.7mm thin and 950 grams.
The new YOGA Tablet 2 Pro runs on the latest 4th generation Intel® Atom™ processor, helping power smooth multimedia playback and rendering, great for multitaskers. On the back is a high resolution 8 MP rear camera and there’s plenty of storage space with 32GB on-board, and up to 64 GB via Micro SD. Lenovo claims the tablet can give users up to 15 hours of battery life and with the optional 4G3, users can stay connected for long periods without charging the tablet.
Software wise, the tablet comes with a new Brewster app which files contacts from various apps into one address book that merges, de-duplicates, and even adds images to contacts and also shares verified contact information to a user’s contacts.
The Lenovo YOGA Tablet 2 Pro is priced at RM1,999 (it is also available in 8 & 10 inch at RM1,099 and RM1,599 respectively).
YOGA 3 Pro (2 in 1 Ultrabook)
The new YOGA 3 Pro somehow manages to be 17 percent slimmer than its predecessors, with a frame at just 12.8mm thin – thinner than a pencil when opened. The PC also comes in lighter at 1.19kg – 14 percent less than before making it really ultra-portable.
The incredibly thin and light design is partly due to Lenovo’s new watchband hinge constructed from more than 800 pieces of steel and aluminium. Lenovo engineers redesigned the original YOGA hinge to ensure that it provides the same degree of flexibility and flatness seen in metallic watch bands. Instead of two focus points, there are now six and the hinge is really incredibly elegant, like the steel bracelet of a good watch!
The YOGA 3 Pro also comes with a QHD+ 3200×1800 display, built with durable Gorilla Glass, giving users a great viewing experience. Sound wise is just as spectacular with the premium JBL® speakers with Waves® Audio, which automatically adjusts the audio in each of the four modes so that the audio still sounds crisp and clear even, when the speakers are not facing the user.
Inside is an Intel® Core M™ processor with Intel integrated graphics, and a fast solid state drive with storage up to 512 GB SSD. There’s also a high-speed 802.11 a/c WiFi and Lenovo claims that this new model has up to seven hours of battery life.
Lenovo also created the latest Harmony software experience, giving YOGA owners a new way to discover applications and customize how they behave when used. For example, when reading an e-book, Harmony will automatically change the brightness and color temperature according to the environment lighting.
When using any presentation software, Harmony can enable motion control or touch depending on the mode, or when watching videos it can optimize the audio settings. Harmony recognizes and optimizes the experience with over 50 of the most popular applications. Harmony also recommends which apps other YOGA owners find useful and provides a handy shortcut to the apps used most frequently in each mode.
The Lenovo YOGA 3 Pro starts at RM4,999.00
In conjunction with the YOGA launch, Lenovo Malaysia is partnering with Urbanscapes 2014 to engage with local talents of Malaysia.
