Casio Computer Co., Ltd. launched five (5) new models to its G-SHOCK family of shock-resistant watches – the GD-X6900CM and the GD-120CM, which have a multi-layered finish combining a rugged look with highly fashionable design.

The new GD-X6900CM and the GD-120CM watches are based on earlier Casio GD-X6900 and GD-120 models, respectively, both of which have large watch cases, and are completely finished in camouflage patterns, including the band, case, and watch face. The camouflage theme also extends to the product packaging, with the box and container finished in the same camouflage pattern as the watch model.

Casio G-Shock ‘Shock The World’ Tour 2013

[Special Event]

The Casio G-Shock ‘Shock The World’ Tour 2013 marked its final leg in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 30 October 2013 at the Chin Woo Stadium in Kuala Lumpur in conjunction with the timepiece’s 30th birthday. The tour started in 2009 and has been held in major cities around the world including New York, Berlin, Paris, to Tokyo and Dubai.

Casio G-Shocks watches have garnered a wide global following over the last three (3) decades and this was due to their combination of style and utility, along with superior craftsmanship. G-Shock watches were designed with a “Triple 10” development philosophy of engineering a timepiece capable of withstanding 10 meters of freefall, 10-bar water resistance and 10-years worth of battery life, which is why the watches are so tough and long lasting!

The creator and “father of G-Shock”, Mr. Kikuo Ibe, Research and Development Chief Engineer of Casio Japan, came over from Japan to join in the celebration in Kuala Lumpur and shared, “When we first started G-SHOCK, we wanted to challenge conventional wisdom that a wrist watch always had to be handled with care. Each G-SHOCK watch is the perfect embodiment of the latest shock resistance technology with cutting-edge design. As we now celebrate G-SHOCK’s successful 30 year history, it is about sharing our vision and journey as we remain committed to continually innovate and evolve our design to excite the world”.

The entertainment of the night comprised performances and shows by VPYP, Julian Oh DJ Eva-T, An Honest Mistake, LahLah Land, Katoon Network and a special appearance by Joe Flizzow, SonaOne and Altimet.

.

I attended with MHB’s Wan Ting and we bumped into some friends of mine including JJ from Red FM (who was my ex-colleague in Astro), Mynn Lee and Jeremy Teo from Red FM, Cecilia Yong who’s the winner of So You Think You Can Dance (Malaysia), and Linora from Mixx FM.

.

In the foyer outside the main concert hall, there was a showcase of G-Shock watches from the classic designs of the 80’s to today’s modern designs. These really brought back memories as I used to wear G-Shock watches when I was in school.

The celebration also saw G-Shock ‘Shock The World’ Kuala Lumpur 2013 collaboration watches by designer Joe Chia for the G-SHOCK DW-6900 model, and up and coming artist Irman Hilmi for the G-Shock Gd 100 Model

“The inspiration behind the watch is parallel to that of our new our new SS14 Collections – Chapter03. Deliquescent, we say – to disappear as if by melting. With our signature monotonous colour palette and geometrical lines, we have created gradient and disappearance from basic lines, bringing a twist and modern edge to the ordinary melting scene.” – Joe Chia

“The main motif is based on radio wavelengths of the first pulsar ever observed, then dubbed CP1919. Though the motif was famously used by Peter Saville for Joy Division’s ‘Unknown Pleasures’ album, the actual image itself came from an American scientific journal in 1971 which was published without a copyright. The seemingly random motif has been made famous since, and various reinterpretations of it exists, with this watch being an obvious homage to the original image.” – Irman Hilmi
