MHB’s Ashley Mah and I headed over to twentyone Tables + Terrace in Bangsar Shopping Centre, Kuala Lumpur on 29 January 2014 for the Join The Pact 2014 campaign launch which is the JOHNNIE WALKER® responsible drinking campaign that encourages consumers to sign the pact and make a commitment to never drink and drive.

This is part of JOHNNIE WALKER®’s on-going global initiative has embarked on a mission to create a global movement to get 1 million pledges in the RACE TO A MILLION project. In partnership with JOHNNIE WALKER®, UBER – the luxury chauffeur service, will be providing 20,000 kilometres of safe rides home to consumers in the Klang Valley.

Natalie Harley, Senior Brand Manager of JOHNNIE WALKER® Malaysia shared that JOHNNIE WALKER® strongly believes that the decision to drink responsibly and stay in control marks a significant step forward in personal progress, and Johnnie Walker is are proud and excited to be able to bring this initiative to Malaysia and empower consumers to make the right choice.

At the event, JOHNNIE WALKER® unveiled their latest video in the Join The Pact campaign, The Glass Car, which features a CGI model of a McLaren Mercedes F1 car and Mika Häkkinen, two-time Formula 1 drivers’ champion who delivers a powerful and important message at the end of the video.

As the JOHNNIE WALKER ® Global Responsible Drinking Ambassador, Mika Häkkinen will be visiting Malaysia in March 2014 (unbelievably I’ve actually met him in person twice before thanks to Johnnie Walker!) to help deliver this important message and get Malaysian consumers to Join The Pact. Besides Mika, there will also be five local ambassadors who will be pledging their commitment to this campaign, and they will partake a journey parallel to the brand’s ethos of “Keep Walking”, ambition, and passion to achieving greater heights. Johnnie Walker hopes that through the ambassadors’ commitment to progress and innovation, and through their stories of success and hard work, the average Malaysian will find their accounts relatable and hopefully be inspired to make more of themselves in the process.

The first three ambassadors which includes budding filmmaker Quek Shio Chuan, mixologists Shawn Chong and Karl Too, and Chef Nigel Richter, are individuals who personify the “Keep Walking” progressive spirit, have already pledged their commitment to never drink and drive and to always stay in control.

This collaboration will come to life over the next half year, with all five ambassadors being special guests of Johnnie Walker at this year’s JOHNNIE WALKER® Circuit Lounge, which will be in the heart of Kuala Lumpur on 29 March 2014, has been endorsed as the Official Malaysian Grand Prix Lounge Party. You can read about last year’s party here – https://timchew.net/2013/04/14/johnnie-walker-circuit-lounge-march-2013/
