Launch of the 2014 Volkswagen Polo Sedan

Good news for car enthusiasts! Volkswagen Malaysia launched the new 2014 Volkswagen Polo Sedan at a press conference on 31 October 2013 at the Setia City Convention Centre.

Back in December 2010, Volkswagen AG and DRB-HICOM signed a collaboration agreement for the assembly of Volkswagen vehicles in Malaysia. As a result of that. in March 2012, Volkswagen AG together with DRB-HICOM officially rolled out the first locally assembled Volkswagen Passat, giving more Malaysians access to Volkswagen automobiles!

Fast-forward a year to 2013 and Volkswagen continues it’s commitment to provide German technology and innovation to reach the Malaysian mass market segment and to provide them with a more affordable German engineered car which is the second Volkswagen to be locally assembled – the 2014 Polo Sedan!

FYI – back in April 2012, Volkswagen Group Malaysia launched the fully-imported Polo Sedan priced at RM99,888.00

921616_715324198496932_1324476794_o — The 2014 Polo Sedan features clean lines throughout its body, testament of true Volkswagen styling, and comes with 15-inch Riverside alloy wheels, chrome finish on the front grille, and on the front air-dam – trunk and fog light surrounds with height adjustable halogen headlights.

1401635_715324221830263_1865941867_o — The 2014 Polo Sedan claims to have superior handling and braking performance, with Volkswagen touting it to be one of the best rides in its segment. The car apparently drives with less body roll and has short braking distance, giving a more stable handling and providing increased safety and confidence to the driver and passenger. Hopefully I’ll get a test-drive soon to confirm the above however from test-driving previous Volkswagen models I believe the claims would be very close to reality.

1402005_715323978496954_1030570912_o — The 2014 Polo Sedan is equipped with a 1.6-litre 105PS petrol injection 16-Valve Multi Point Injection (MPI) engine mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic, churning out what Volkswagen claims is the highest torque in its class with a maximum output of 153Nm at 3800 rpm. The engine also offer good fuel efficiency – offering a combined fuel consumption of 6.5 litres per 100km, or 15.4km per litre.

Interior

The 2014 Polo Sedan comes with an interior chrome package (chrome surrounds for radio and light switches, AC panel and vents, steering wheel accent). The car is also the only one in its segment to offer a multifunctional steering wheel with cruise control, auto power windows (anti-pinch) for all four doors, a leather gear knob, and a leather handbrake lever.

The 2014 Polo Sedan comes with a 60:40 folding rear seats, height adjustable driver and passenger seats, ‘Livon’ fabric seat upholstery, multi-function display, power door locks, power steering as well as a tilt and telescopic steering wheel.

There are also ISOFIX points for baby car seats.

The boot is pretty big and to give you a sense of just how big it is I left my GS3 inside then stepped back to snap this pic.

Enhanced Features

The 2014 Polo Sedan comes with a new RCD 320 Radio system with multi-language support, USB and iPod interface, SD card slot, AUX-in and Bluetooth connectivity. Setting it apart from its competitors, the car is equipped with class leading features that’s usually found in more premium cars such as the “Climatronic” automatic air conditioning system, rear air conditioning vent and a new height-adjustable front centre armrest with storage box and rear cup holder.

Safety Features

A high level of safety is ensured in the 2014 Polo Sedan and it comes equipped with dual front airbags and additional dual side airbags, while the inclusion of Intelligent Crash Response System (ICRS) and anti-pinch windows in all four doors makes the car the only one in its class to feature such advanced safety level.

The 2014 Polo Sedan comes with the standard 3-point safety belts for rear outboard occupants, child seat anchor (ISOFIX system), anti-theft alarm system and anti-lock braking system (ABS).

The 2014 Polo Sedan is available in 5 different colours; Candy White, Flash Red, Pepper Grey, Reflex Silver and Deep Black.
