Nissan Serena S-Hybrid Launch

Now I’ve attended many car/ automobile launches but this has definitely got to be the first in the hybrid MPV category. As you are aware, MPVs are not very fuel-efficient as they have to lug around a heavy body, interior and passengers so I guess it was about time that someone came up with an MPV that not only saves fuel (and your money) but also the environment at the same time!

It was “puasa” month and our friends in blue were “working” very diligently but as I knew they were extra hardworking this month I was extra careful to obey traffic rules as I made my way over to the Setia City Convention Centre on 23 July 2013 for Edaran Tan Chong Motor’s (ETCM) unveiling of the all-new Nissan SERENA S-HYBRID (“S” for “Smart” in case you were wondering) – Malaysia’s first hybrid MPV.

The Nissan Serena S-Hybrid is available (only) in the premium Highway Star grade with the unique front grille and bumpers, 16 inch alloy wheels combined with sports suspension, and the dark interior trim.

The Nissan SERENA S-HYBRID features blue headlight inner lenses, high-intensity LED rear combination lights, a clear LED High Mount Stop Lamp.

The powertrain of the new SERENA S-HYBRID features a hybrid system incorporating the new MR20DD 4-cylinder DOHC petrol engine with direct-injection, Twin CVTC (Continuously Variable Valve Timing) and the latest generation XTRONIC CVT with Adaptive Shift Control (ASC). Its ECO electric motor serves as an auxiliary power source to provide engine assistance and power regeneration. The hybrid system also adds an additional battery unit for increased storage capacity to power the ECO Motor. The S-Hybrid system also features an Idling Stop System which automatically switches off the engine when the vehicle comes to a stop in traffic, helping the SERENA S-HYBRID to achieve superb fuel economy in city driving. The engine starts again within 0.3 seconds when the brake pedal is released. The rated output of the MR20DD engine is 147ps at 5,600rpm and 210Nm of torque at 4,400rpm. The interior space of the SERENA S-HYBRID is also claimed to be the largest and most flexible in its class, able to accommodate up to 8 persons while offering 14 different seating configurations by simply sliding the seats around.

Getting in and out of the Nissan SERENA S-HYBRID is very convenient with the powered sliding doors on both sides of the vehicle. Just one touch is required on the door handle to operate the sliding doors which offer the largest opening in its class (802mm wide and 1,308mm tall) for ease of ingress and egress. The SERENA S-HYBRID’s third row can be accessed in different ways – either through the centre walk-through or the left side,

There is also an additional storage space located beneath the luggage tray which can easily accommodate a baby stroller or a golf bag.

The flowing dashboard design which houses the controls and 6.5-inch Multimedia Navigator with Rear View Camera, DVD player, iPod connectivity, USB & Bluetooth.

The meter panel includes the Eco Driver Navigator that can guide the driver to maximize fuel efficiency.

Exterior colour choices are Dark Purple, Super Black, Brilliant Pearl White and Brilliant Silver.

Optional accessories include a 10.1-inch roof-mounted LCD panel, door visor, combination leather interior and window tinting.

The Nissan SERENA S-HYBRID is fully-imported from Japan and is competitively priced at RM149,500.00 and comes with a 3 years warranty or 100,000km (whichever comes first).

During the promotional period, customers will also receive a free 6.5-inch Multimedia Navigator with Rear View Camera, DVD player, iPod connectivity, USB & Bluetooth worth RM3,300.00 (valid while stocks last).
