Official Synopsis
When legions of monstrous alien creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Tomcat says – I felt that the 1998 Godzilla which was written and directed by Roland Emmerich was a huge huge disappointment! They made it into a big comedy when they could have done so much more. Well lesson learned and 15 years later comes (although with absolutely no connection) Pacific Rim which explores the topic of invading giant monsters or “kaiju” which is Japanese for “strange beast” (Godzilla was referred to as a kaiju in Japanese films) attacking human cities.
This time they got it spot on! Great action scenes, fantastic CGI, a rather dark plot, and GIANT ROBOTS known as “Jaegers” which means “hunter” in German as humanity’s last defence against the invading aliens!
I personally think this film is right up there with Star Trek – Into the Darkness for the best science fiction action movie of the year so far! If you’re going to watch it, make sure you spend a couple of extra bucks to catch it in IMAX 3D!
