Movie Review – Man of Steel

You will give the people of Earth an ideal to strive towards.  They’ll race behind you.

They will stumble.  They will fall.  But in time, they will join you in the sun.

In time, you will help them accomplish wonders.

I’ve waited for this reboot for quite a while. Ever since Superman Returns back in 2006 kind of failed to revive the series, the producers determined that a whole reboot was necessary and thus we have “Man of Steel”. It’s interesting to note that the word “Superman” is not in the movie’s title and is hardly even mentioned during the movie itself. Then again Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises) is one of the producers so it’s no surprise. Do expect this reboot to be darker like The Dark Knight movies and less humour unlike the Christopher Reeves Superman movies.

“Man of Steel,” stars Henry Cavill (“Immortals,” TV’s “The Tudors”) in the role of Clark Kent/Superman, in this film directed by Zack Snyder (“300,” “Watchmen”).

This new reboot places a bit more emphasis on the origins of Clark/ Kal-El and his parents on Krypton. More emphasis has also been placed on young Clark Kent growing up on Earth, discovering his powers, and facing his insecurities of being different through a series of flashbacks.

The movie has quite a few action scenes interspersed with some touching moments involving family and Lois Lane trying to uncover his secret. I thought it flowed pretty well with some epic fight scenes (the destruction is off the scale) and Superman Returns (2006) pales drastically in comparison with Man of Steel.

BTW look out for the “Lexcorp” logo in Metropolis. I’d say Lex Luthor is probably the villain in the next movie.

Do yourself a favour and watch Man of Steel in IMAX.

Man of Steel stars:
