As some of you might have noticed, I started two (2) new categories on my blog namely; “Romantic Dining Spots” and “Casual Dining”. This is because I’ve been having a headache lately over where to bring my partner for a nice meal/ night out in KL thus I decided to start my own little guide to try to help other guys out there.
So on 17 June 2013, I made my way over to Hoofed in Taman Tun Dr. Ismail (TTDI) and waited for my partner to join me. Having lived in TTDI for 20 over years, I still consider TTDI as my neighbourhood as I currently stay about 10 minutes away. Over the years the row in which Hoofed is located has become increasingly happening as more and more food outlets opened up making it a little suburbian hub for food and drinks.
Hoofed is owned by the same guys who brought you Tom, Dick & Harry’s (TDH) which is right below Hoofed, “Ali, Muthu & Ah Hock” and Royal Flush Chinese Restaurant in Ara Damansara. TDH is more of a fun pub where you can get some cold beers and decent food while Hoofed is more of a wine lounge where you can chill with your friends and enjoy some porky delights like the suckling pig. Ali, Muthu & Ah Hock serves up some delicious local delights such as Nasi Lemak and Roti Jala during the daytime while Royal Flush is a more up-market Chinese restaurant with a really nice interior, rooftop garden, and even a karaoke room!

Hoofed is located in TTDI above Tom, Dick & Harry’s and along the same row as Artisan Roast Coffee and MaybankThe interior has a warm and cosy ambience and the curved brick ceiling gives me the impression that I’m underground in a wine cellarThis is just one of their wine racks. They have a wide range of different wines from various regions. They have cocktails too and the owners were kind enough to allow my partner to play bartender andmake her own cocktailI’m still waiting for her to name it though. It was a refreshing concoction of lime juice, rose syrup, lychee syrup and vodka.I preferred to start off my night with a pint of Stella ArtoisThe menu which I feel is quite reasonably priced and are nettRoasted Tomato Soup – RM7.00 – This is not your watery from the can type. This was nice and thick and was a nice blend of sweet, salty and slighty bitter (from the roasting) flavours.Smoked Salmon & Crabmeat Salad – RM24.00 – the saltiness of the smoked salmon added a contrast of flavour to the veges. The dressing was served on the side as my partner is pretty particular about not having her salad drenched in dressings.Grilled Lamb Cutlets – RM32.00 – this one is actually a starter. Deliciously flavourful (must have been marinated) and tender lamb cutlets to satisfy those protein cravings. The cuts come with a little fat on the side which adds to the texture and tenderness but for those of you who are more weight conscious you can always cut it off. Comes with a dipping sauce but it’s already great on it’s own.Chilean Sea Bass – RM40.00 – I’m not really a fish person but I really liked this one! The fresh and tender fish was complemented with the cream sauce and bell peppers making it a very well balanced dish in terms of flavour and texture. If you like a little acidity the black liquid surrounding the cream is balsamic vinegar which lends another dimention to the dish. After dinner we decided to pick out a bottle of red wine and slowly drink it on one of the sofasThe restaurant manager helped us to select one according to our preferenceSo many to choose from!Ultimately we decided on a carbenet sauvignon from Australia
We didn’t order dessert as we were pretty full and my date is not really one for the sweet stuff but give their “Bananarama” a shot if you like chocolate with bananas!
If you’re looking for a more chilled and less boisterous place to have a meal and some wine you might want to try out Hoofed.
Tip – You might want to book one of the comfy sofas to have your wine after your meal.
