Brewfest Malaysia 2012 Media Preview 180412

Headed over to Brussels Beer Cafe in Jaya One, Petaling Jaya for the media preview of Brewfest Malaysia 2012. The event will be held from 17 to 19 May 2012 at Publika, Solaris Dutamas and will feature loads of imported and craft beers that are not easily available in Malaysia such as Timmermans, J.Boag & Sons, Chimay, Triple Karmeliet, Abbaye de Forest, Trappistes, Yona Yona Ale, Hitachino Nest, Thornbridge, Inveralmond, 3 Ravens, and Mornington.

“For the first time in history, Malaysians get to try over 50 types of  premium and craft brews, where most are not readily available in the local market.  It is only at BREWFEST 2012 that you get such golden opportunity to revel in the rare yet exquisite brews, be it bottled, canned or draught, from Germany, Belgium, England, Scotland, Australia, Japan and the United States. Thanks to our sponsors and partners- Warsteiner, Publika, Salty Customs and Envisage Events – who believed in our efforts in presenting a unique gathering of quality brews, we were able to bring together these exclusive brands to showcase their products at BREWFEST 2012. In addition, you will also get to savour all kinds of delectable menus that serve as excellent accompaniments to the beers!” commented Cheryl Loi, Brand and Marketing Director of Loile BDMP and organiser of the festival.

My excellent company for the evening - Yee Ying, Amanda and MHB's Lee Yvonne

Amanda learning the proper way to pour a draught beer.

The menu for the evening

Hitachino Nest White Ale - a Belgian style wheat beer, mildly hopped with complex flavours or coriander, nutmeg and orange peel. Think Hoegaarden. ABV: 5.5%
The Hitachino was paired with the Salmon tartar with sour cream and fennel dill salad

Aglio olio fresh tiger prawn paired with Warsteiner - a clean, crisp and no aftertaste rich-full bodied beer with thick head and refreshing hop finish.
Spicy soft shell crab with pickle vegetable paired with Konig Ludwig Weissbier - this one needs no introduction. It's a great beer in my books!
The beers
Warsteiner braised pork belly served with Belgian Stoemp paired with Yona Yona Ale - medium dark amber body with a slightly sweet and toffee tone. Beer and pork? You can't go wrong with that!

Yona Yona Ale - an American style pale ale brewed using the crystal clear waters of the Japanese Alps. This beer features a floral aroma, a balanced body of sweet malt flavours and a crisp hop finish. ABV: 5.5%

Yvonne enjoying her oysters!
Oyster Delight - oysters prepared in 3 different styles paired with Triple Karmeliet - selected aromatic malts give the beer its deep golden colour with a hinge of honey aroma.

Cream cheese moose top with mix berries compote served with cinnamon sweet pepper corn sauce paired with Chimay Peres Trappist (Red). Brewed with traditional methods of Trappist beers. Topped with a creamy head, it gives off a slight fruity apricot aroma from the fermentation. Best savoured at cellar temperature of 10-12 degree centigrade.

Now I was definitely not full after that microscopic meal. Good thing the organisers knows that happy media are more inclined to give good coverage so we continued the evening with some real food!

Siew yoke! Beer's best friend!
I can't really remember what this was called but it was minced pork wrapped in bacon and cooked in a Leffe sauce. Simply awesome beer food!
Remember the Grimbergen launch which I attended at the Belgian ambassador's house? Well it's available at Brussels Beer Cafe!

Happy faces after a good meal and loads of beer!
