The Glenmorangie Story

Most of you would have seen my post on the Glenmorangie Orange Night which happened at the end of last month. If you did not well shame on you! Read about it here –

Now some of you may be wondering what exactly is Glenmorangie. Well simply put, Glenmorangie is to me one of the most delicious and complex single malt whiskies in the world with its multi-layered aromas and a myriad of flavours.

Glenmorangie has actually been marketed in Malaysia under the Moet Hennessy Diageo group since 2008 and if you’re one of your Facebook friends you might remember the album where I arranged a special tasting of Glenmorangie with some lovely FHM babes (including FHM’s Most Wanted Woman 2008 – Sarah Lian), FHM editor Joe Balan and myself of course.

The Glenmorangie Original – the mainstay of the Glenmorangie range
The Glenmorangie distillery is situated half a mile North-West of Tain in the Morangie valley in Scotland. 'Valley' in Scottish is 'Glen' hence the name.

Always striving for perfection, Glenmorangie takes pride in going to great lengths to ensure the quality of Glenmorangie whisky; to ascertain that Glenmorangie whisky is “Unnecessarily Well Made”. Apparently Glenmorangie only hires 16 men at any one time to work in the distillery. Check out the video below.

The superiority of the ingredients – local spring water from its own Tarlogie spring and locally grown Scottish barley, combined with the skill of the craftsmen who follow the same, time honoured approach that the company has used throughout its long history, result in a smooth spirit of distinction.
While there are many perfectly good single malt whiskies made in shorter stills, the Glenmorangie Distillery utilizes swan-necked stills that are the tallest in Scotland. Glenmorangie stills stand at a dizzying sixteen feet, ten and one quarter inches (5.14m) high. This height means that only the lightest and purest vapours are able to ascend to the top and condense into spirit, contributing to Glenmorangie’s distinctive complexity and layered flavour.
The blueprints for you to create your own moonshine...
Single malt whisky obtains its flavour from the wooden casks used in maturation. Many of Glenmorangie’s bespoke casks are made from white oaks grown on the Ozark Mountains in Missouri, USA. They are grown slowly over 100 years and seasoned naturally in the open air for two years to preserve their porous texture – a quality that adds to the spirit’s intriguing depth.
Today, Glenmorangie is one of the most famous and well-respected Scotch whisky distillers and marketers of premium Scotch whisky brands worldwide.

Be sure not to miss the opportunity to familiarize with all things ‘Unnecessarily Well Made’ this April. Come 11 April to 1 May 2012, Glenmorangie’s SOUNDFORM Fluid bar will be showcased in the North Atrium of The Gardens Mall, Mid Valley City, Kuala Lumpur.
