DENZA Brings Z9GT Electric Grand Tourer to Malaysia in Asia-Pacific Debut

The DENZA Z9GT made its Asia-Pacific debut in Kuala Lumpur on 16 July 2026, as DENZA Malaysia introduced the electric grand tourer to the region for the first time. The spectacular launch event was staged against the Kuala Lumpur skyline with the iconic Petronas Twin Towers as a backdrop, and included a string quartet, an opera performance, a ballet showcase and live demonstrations of the car’s low-speed manoeuvring functions, closing with a fireworks display.

Liu Xueliang, vice president of BYD and general manager of the company’s Asia-Pacific auto sales division, used the event to update guests on BYD’s broader progress. He said the company’s global research and development team has grown to more than 123,000 engineers and pointed to two recent milestones: production of BYD’s 17 millionth new energy vehicle and cumulative global new energy vehicle sales passing 4.6 million units.

“Today’s customers are no longer defining luxury by legacy badges or premium materials alone. They are looking for intelligent technology that enhances their everyday lives and delivers meaningful value. With the DENZA Z9GT, we are redefining luxury mobility through the seamless integration of intelligence, performance and innovation that truly serves people. As the first model equipped with the BYD Second Generation Blade Battery, the DENZA Z9GT delivers enhanced safety, longer battery life and ultra-fast charging, providing greater convenience and confidence for our customers.”

The Z9GT rides on BYD’s e³ platform, which the company positions as DENZA’s most advanced vehicle architecture to date. A tri-motor, all-wheel-drive setup produces up to 850 kilowatts — 1,156 PS — and 1,210 newton-meters of torque, which DENZA says is enough to take the car from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds. Range is rated at up to 701 kilometers under the NEDC testing cycle.

Two chassis technologies do much of the platform’s work. Cell-to-Body integration bonds the battery pack directly into the car’s structure, a method DENZA’s product materials say stiffens the body and lowers the floor without adding separate reinforcement. Paired with a dual-chamber air suspension system the company calls DiSUS-A, which continuously adjusts ride height and damping, the setup is intended to keep the car composed over varied road surfaces despite its size and power.

Steering is where the specifications get more granular than the July launch materials disclosed. According to details published on DENZA’s website, the rear wheels turn independently by up to 20 degrees, producing a 4.62-meter turning circle despite the car’s roughly 5.1-meter length — tighter, DENZA says, than many compact hatchbacks. A separate, more extreme maneuver called Crab Walk Mode lets the car move diagonally at up to 15 degrees of angle, intended to help with tight parking by shifting the car sideways rather than requiring repeated forward-and-back corrections. A related function, Pencil Compass Turn, coordinates all four wheels’ steering with individual torque control so the car can rotate in place in confined spaces.

The Second Generation Blade Battery supplying all of this has a capacity of 122.49 kilowatt-hours and runs on a 1,000-volt architecture. Paired with BYD’s Flash Charging Technology, DENZA says the pack can go from 10% to 70% charge in five minutes and from 10% to 97% in nine minutes, with roughly 5% higher energy density than the prior-generation Blade Battery.

DENZA describes the Z9GT’s design under the phrase “Technology Drives Elegance.” The car uses what the company calls a shooting-brake silhouette — a low, elongated profile with the visual weight shifted rearward — with a wheel-to-axle ratio the company says exceeds 3:1 and body lines it describes as inspired by the movement of silk.

Several cabin features are aimed less at performance than at daily convenience. An in-cabin refrigerator can chill items to as low as minus 6 degrees Celsius or warm them to 50 degrees, adjustable before the driver even enters the car. A “Meteor Welcome Light” projects a light carpet as the driver approaches, and the tailgate can open automatically when an occupant steps on a projected logo on the ground rather than requiring hands-free kick sensors. A digital rearview mirror is advertised as giving roughly three times the field of view of a conventional mirror, and rear passengers get a 50-watt wireless charging pad built into the armrest.

Rear seating is arranged as two independent outer seats — DENZA calls the package “Cocoon Class” — with power adjustment, heating, ventilation, multi-point massage and electric leg rests. In front, a 13.2-inch, 2.5K-resolution passenger display sits alongside a 20-speaker sound system developed with French audio brand Devialet, and connectivity runs through a processor with Google’s software built in.

The Z9GT comes in two exterior colours, Rime Gold and Obsidian Black, each paired with a choice of interior schemes: a Dark Chocolate and Perg Beige combination, a Dark Chocolate and Red Velvet combination available only with the black exterior, or an all-black suede interior with yellow stitching.

DENZA is backing the Z9GT with the following coverage:

  • A six-year or 150,000-kilometer vehicle warranty
  • Six years of complimentary scheduled maintenance, which the company values at 10,000 ringgit
  • An eight-year or 160,000-kilometer warranty on the high-voltage battery
  • An eight-year or 160,000-kilometer warranty on the drive unit
  • A complimentary pair of Devialet-collaboration earbuds, valued at 2,000 ringgit, limited to the first 99 buyers who register a Z9GT

The battery and drive-unit terms match the coverage DENZA offered on the D9, the MPV that introduced the brand to Malaysia in February 2025, though the Z9GT’s drive-unit warranty runs 10,000 kilometers longer than the 150,000-kilometer figure quoted for the D9 at that launch.

The Z9GT retails in Malaysia priced at MYR 358,800 , excluding insurance and registration. Following the Kuala Lumpur unveiling, the car is available for test drives and viewing at DENZA showrooms in Balakong, Glenmarie, KLCC, KL North, Old Klang Road, Melaka, Penang and Skudai. Further specifications are listed on DENZA Malaysia’s website.

The Z9GT is DENZA’s third model in Malaysia and arrives roughly a year and a half after the brand’s local debut. DENZA entered the Malaysian market in February 2025 with the launch of the D9, an electric MPV, at an event held at The Landing, KL Base. The D9 launch was DENZA’s official market entry in Malaysia, introducing the brand locally for the first time.

The Z9GT’s arrival adds a new entrant to Malaysia’s growing but still relatively small market for high-performance luxury electric vehicles, a segment that has historically been dominated by European and American brands such as Porsche, Mercedes-Benz and Tesla. At MYR 358,800, the Z9GT is positioned below many rival performance EVs while offering specifications — including tri-motor output exceeding 1,100 PS and a sub-three-second 0-100 km/h time — that have typically been reserved for vehicles costing significantly more.

Charging speed is likely to be one of the more consequential details for everyday ownership. A battery that can charge from 10% to 70% in five minutes would, if it performs as described in real-world conditions, substantially narrow the gap between charging an EV and refuelling a gasoline vehicle — a gap that remains one of the most commonly cited concerns among prospective EV buyers. Malaysia’s charging infrastructure, however, is still developing, and the practical benefit of ultra-fast charging technology depends heavily on the availability of compatible high-power chargers across the country, not just on the vehicle’s own capabilities.

The ownership package — including an eight-year battery and drive-unit warranty and six years of complimentary maintenance — addresses a common hesitation among buyers considering electric vehicles from newer or less-established luxury brands: uncertainty about long-term reliability and the cost of battery replacement. That the terms largely mirror what DENZA offered on the D9 at its Malaysian debut suggests the brand is standardising its coverage across models rather than treating the Z9GT as a one-off flagship.
