Sime Motors Launches BYD Certified Pre-Owned EV Programme in Malaysia

BYD Sime Motors, the official distributor of BYD cars in Malaysia, has launched BYD Certified, the company’s official certified pre-owned vehicle programme. The initiative offers Malaysian consumers a structured pathway into electric vehicle ownership through professionally inspected vehicles backed by warranty coverage and aftersales support.
The launch, held on 20 July 2026, also marks the establishment of the first BYD Certified outlet in the Asia Pacific region. The facility is located at Sime Darby Auto Selection Glenmarie, a placement that reflects Malaysia’s growing importance within BYD’s regional growth strategy.
The programme is designed to address concerns specific to pre-owned electric vehicles, particularly around battery health and vehicle history transparency. Every vehicle included in the programme is professionally inspected, supported by verified battery health assessments, and covered by warranty and aftersales support. The programme operates under the promise to “Drive Pre-Owned with Confidence,” aiming to provide transparency, reliability and long-term value at each stage of ownership.
During the launch event, BYD Certified completed its first customer delivery with the handover of a pre-owned BYD ATTO 3. The transaction marks a milestone for the programme and for the broader adoption of certified pre-owned electric vehicles in Malaysia.
“BYD Certified represents an important step in making EV ownership more accessible to Malaysians. As the EV market continues to mature, we are seeing growing interest from customers seeking quality pre-owned vehicles backed by assurance and professional support. Through BYD Certified, we are extending the BYD ownership experience to a wider audience, while reinforcing our commitment to supporting customers throughout their entire EV journey, beyond just the vehicle itself.”
Jacob Ma, Managing Director of BYD Malaysia
“BYD Certified is built on rigorous quality standards and transparent vehicle verification. Every certified pre-owned BYD undergoes a comprehensive inspection by trained technicians and is supported by verified vehicle history records, battery health assessments and warranty coverage. The programme also provides existing BYD owners with a trusted trade-in platform, making it easier to upgrade within the BYD ecosystem while supporting stronger long-term ownership value.”
Adeline Lew, Managing Director of BYD Sime Motors
To qualify for certification, vehicles must meet a set of defined standards organised into five assurance pillars. The first pillar requires each vehicle to undergo a 170-point professional inspection. The second establishes a mileage ceiling, permitting only vehicles with fewer than 100,000 kilometres. The third pillar restricts vehicle age to four years or less, with specific mileage thresholds tied to each year of age: one-year-old vehicles must have 30,000 kilometres or fewer; two-year-old vehicles, 60,000 kilometres or fewer; three-year-old vehicles, 90,000 kilometres or fewer; and four-year-old vehicles, 100,000 kilometres or fewer. The fourth pillar guarantees that certified vehicles are free from major accidents, fire damage, flood damage and odometer tampering. The fifth pillar mandates that any refurbishment be carried out using genuine BYD parts and approved repair standards.
These five pillars form the foundation of the certification process, intended to ensure that each vehicle meets defined quality standards before reaching the consumer.
Beyond the inspection and certification process, the programme includes several ownership provisions. Customers are entitled to a full buy-back at the original purchase price if undisclosed structural, flood or fire damage is identified within five days of delivery. Service and warranty coverage is available across BYD’s authorised sales, service and spare parts dealer network in Malaysia. Existing BYD owners also have access to a trade-in platform with transparent evaluations, intended to facilitate upgrades within the BYD range.
The first BYD Certified outlet at Sime Darby Auto Selection Glenmarie offers vehicle purchase, certification verification, trade-in services, financing solutions, warranty support and aftersales care. Selected certified pre-owned BYD models are available at the location, subject to stock availability.
Financing packages for BYD Certified vehicles are available from 2.03 percent, subject to terms and conditions. The programme also includes a Weekend Showroom Event scheduled from July 24 to July 26, 2026, at the Glenmarie outlet.
The launch of BYD Certified arrives at a critical juncture in Malaysia’s electric vehicle market. As the country pushes forward with its National Energy Transition Roadmap and targets 15 per cent electric vehicle adoption by 2030 under the National Automotive Policy, the availability of a manufacturer-backed certified pre-owned programme addresses one of the most significant barriers to entry: cost. New electric vehicles, while increasingly competitive, remain out of reach for a substantial portion of Malaysian consumers. A certified pre-owned pathway lowers the financial threshold without forcing buyers into the uncertainty of the unregulated used car market, where battery health, accident history and odometer accuracy are often difficult to verify.
For prospective EV buyers, the five assurance pillars provide a degree of structural protection that is rare in the Malaysian pre-owned market. The 170-point inspection, combined with verified battery health assessments and guaranteed clean history, directly targets the anxieties that have historically deterred consumers from considering used vehicles—particularly electric ones, where battery degradation is a primary concern. The five-day buy-back provision adds a further layer of consumer protection, offering recourse if significant undisclosed damage is discovered shortly after purchase. The requirement that refurbishment use only genuine BYD parts also ensures that certified vehicles maintain manufacturer standards, preserving both safety and residual value.
From a broader market perspective, the programme’s trade-in platform is likely to strengthen the BYD ownership ecosystem in Malaysia. By giving existing owners a clear, transparent route to upgrade within the brand, Sime Motors creates a self-reinforcing cycle that supports long-term ownership value and encourages brand loyalty. The financing rate of 2.03 per cent, while subject to terms and conditions, is positioned to make certified pre-owned EVs competitive against conventional internal combustion engine vehicles on a total cost-of-ownership basis—particularly when fuel savings and lower maintenance costs are factored in. For consumers who have been waiting on the sidelines of Malaysia’s EV transition, BYD Certified offers a lower-risk entry point backed by the infrastructure of an established distributor with a multi-brand automotive portfolio.

Cycle & Carriage Opens Its First Kia 3S Centre in Malaysia
Cycle & Carriage officially opened its first Kia 3S centre in Malaysia on 10 July 2026, a facility in Glenmarie that combines sales, service and parts operations under one roof following the company’s appointment as an authorised dealer for Kia Sales Malaysia.
The centre marks Cycle & Carriage’s entry into Kia’s retail network in Malaysia. The company said the facility is intended to support sales, aftersales and service for Kia customers through a single, integrated location.
The Glenmarie facility spans 20,839 square feet and includes a 5,511-square-foot showroom capable of displaying up to five vehicles, a service centre, workshop and parts operations, and a 2,067-square-foot customer lounge. It has 20 service work bays and includes charging infrastructure intended to support electric vehicles. Cycle & Carriage said the centre was built to align with Kia’s global retail standards.
“At Cycle & Carriage, we believe that exceptional ownership extends beyond the point of purchase. The Kia Cycle & Carriage Glenmarie 3S Centre brings together Kia’s global retail experience with our longstanding expertise in aftersales service and customer care, allowing us to support customers with greater convenience, accessibility, and peace of mind throughout their ownership journey. The launch of this centre marks the beginning of an exciting chapter in our partnership with Kia Sales Malaysia as we work together to elevate the ownership experience for customers across the country.”
Adrian Short, chief executive officer of Cycle & Carriage Malaysia
The showroom follows what Kia calls its Store Identity 2.0 design standard, part of the brand’s current global retail design approach. The space includes a gallery zone with digital displays, an exhibition area for Kia’s newer and flagship models, and consultation areas the company said are intended for one-on-one customer engagement. The showroom is connected to a customer lounge and a service reception area.
“At Kia, we believe our dealerships are much more than physical facilities. They are where lasting relationships with our customers begin and where trust in our brand is built. Guided by our three strategic pillars—Return, Rebuild and Reposition—we are strengthening every aspect of the ownership journey, from delivering world-class vehicles to providing exceptional sales and aftersales support. With its strong reputation, extensive automotive expertise and customer-first approach, Cycle & Carriage shares our commitment to delivering an ownership experience that reflects the quality of our products and the standards of the Kia brand.”
Emily Lek, managing director of Kia Sales Malaysia

Cycle & Carriage said the Glenmarie centre is intended to strengthen Kia’s retail and aftersales presence in Malaysia by combining the automaker’s vehicle lineup with the dealer’s existing customer service operations.
The Kia Cycle & Carriage Glenmarie 3S Centre is located at No. 1, Jalan Pelukis U1/46, Temasya Industrial Park, Seksyen U1, 40150 Shah Alam, Selangor. The showroom is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays and public holidays. The service centre operates from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays, and is closed on Sundays and public holidays.
Customers can reach the centre through Cycle & Carriage’s customer line at 1800-22-8000 or through the company’s website, www.cyclecarriage.com.my
The opening of a dedicated Kia 3S centre gives Malaysian Kia owners and prospective buyers a single facility that combines vehicle sales, servicing and parts support, rather than requiring separate visits to different providers for those needs. For consumers, that consolidation can translate into a more predictable ownership experience: a car bought at the centre can typically also be serviced, repaired and supplied with parts at the same location, which may reduce the logistical burden of vehicle ownership, particularly for routine maintenance and warranty work.
The timing is also notable. Kia’s move to establish a wholly owned national sales company in Malaysia in late 2025, followed by Cycle & Carriage’s appointment as an authorised dealer and the opening of this centre, signals a broader restructuring of how the brand is sold and supported in the country.
For prospective buyers, the entry of an established dealer group such as Cycle & Carriage — which already operates a large service network in Malaysia through its Mercedes-Benz, Peugeot and commercial vehicle businesses — could be a welcome factor in evaluating long-term ownership costs and convenience, including the availability of service bays, wait times for appointments, and access to genuine parts.
