Honda Malaysia officially relaunched the Prelude nameplate, unveiling the sixth-generation All-New Prelude at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) 2026. Priced at RM278,000 on-the-road without insurance, the model marks the brand’s return to a name that has not featured in its Malaysian lineup for years, and introduces S+ Shift Technology — a feature making its debut in Honda Malaysia’s range.
“Hybrid technology continues to be one of the most realistic and effective pathways toward environmental sustainability, while delivering the performance, convenience, and driving enjoyment that customers expect. We have already turned this vision to life through our extensive e:HEV lineup, which today spans across our sedan, hatchback, and SUV segments. With the introduction of the All-New Prelude, we further strengthen our commitment to this journey. The Prelude serves as a symbol of how hybrid technology can enhance driving enjoyment while preserving the emotional connection that has always defined Honda vehicles.”
Narushi Yazaki, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Honda Malaysia

Developed as a modern grand tourer, the All-New Prelude is built around Honda’s 2.0-litre e:HEV powertrain, producing 184 PS and 315 Nm of torque. The headline addition is S+ Shift Technology, a motor-driven hybrid system that precisely controls engine RPM during acceleration and deceleration to deliver a more direct drive response and a sharper, more deliberate gear-shifting sensation than a conventional hybrid CVT typically provides. The system synchronises responsive power delivery with Active Sound Control and dynamic visual displays on the Power Meter, intended to create a more immersive and engaging connection between car and driver.
Three drive modes — Sport, GT and Comfort — are available, each shaped by the S+ Shift system to express a distinct character. Sport Mode sharpens handling response and stability; GT Mode is tuned for long-distance touring with a balance of comfort and effortless performance; Comfort Mode favours smoother power delivery and lighter steering for a more relaxed drive. An Individual Mode allows drivers to customise powertrain response, steering weight, suspension behaviour, meter display and engine sound to personal preference.
For the first time in a Honda model, the Prelude introduces Coasting Control Operation, allowing the car to decelerate smoothly without requiring constant switching between accelerator and brake — a feature aimed at reducing driver fatigue, particularly in stop-start traffic conditions common on Malaysian roads.

The Prelude borrows key chassis technologies from Honda’s Type R performance lineage, including a dual-axis strut front suspension and an Adaptive Damper System, intended to deliver more precise handling and greater driver confidence. Agile Handling Assist is also fitted, designed to improve vehicle stability during cornering and obstacle-avoidance manoeuvres.
Developed under Honda’s “Unlimited Glide” concept, the Prelude’s fastback silhouette and flowing body lines are intended to evoke the smooth motion of a glider. Honda achieved an uninterrupted line from roof to tailgate by integrating a glass-print radio antenna directly into the rear glass — a detail-level design choice supporting the car’s continuous visual profile. Exterior elements include a Black Chrome Grille, LED headlights, LED rear combination lights with red lens detailing, flush door handles, distinctive blue accents on the lower bumpers, 19-inch aluminium wheels and blue Brembo brake callipers.
Inside, the Gliding Cockpit design is intended to create a closer sense of connection between driver, passenger and vehicle. The driver’s seat is tuned to prioritise engagement and control, while the passenger seat emphasises comfort and ease of entry and exit. The cabin features a 9-inch Advanced Display Audio system with Google built-in, providing Google Assistant, Google Maps and Google Play integration, alongside a Bose Premium Sound System. Despite its coupe body style, the Prelude retains Honda’s space-packaging expertise, with cargo capacity sufficient for two medium-sized suitcases.
The All-New Prelude is equipped with the full Honda Sensing suite of advanced driver-assist technologies as standard, intended to support driver confidence across varied driving conditions.
The All-New Prelude is priced at RM278,000 on-the-road without insurance and is available in three colours: Winter Frost Pearl, Rallye Red and Crystal Black Pearl. Honda’s KLIMS 2026 showcase also includes a broader range of hybrid models, including the HR-V fitted with a 360-degree camera system. Bookings can be placed at prebook.honda.com.my, at any authorised Honda dealer, or via Honda’s toll-free line at 1-800-88-2020.
The Prelude’s return puts Honda Malaysia in an unusual position within its own lineup: a hybrid coupe priced above the brand’s mainstream sedan and SUV range, positioned more on emotional and driving-experience grounds than on outright practicality. At RM278,000, prospective buyers are likely to weigh the Prelude against a relatively narrow set of alternatives — sports-oriented coupes and grand tourers from both Japanese and European brands — rather than against Honda’s own e:HEV siblings, which serve a fundamentally different buyer intent.
S+ Shift Technology is the more consequential story for buyers who have found conventional hybrid CVT systems numb or disconnected to drive. By using motor control to simulate distinct, deliberate gear changes, the system attempts to resolve a long-standing criticism of hybrid powertrains — that efficiency often comes at the cost of driving engagement — without abandoning the fuel economy and refinement benefits of the e:HEV system itself. Whether that translation from specification to seat-of-the-pants feel succeeds is, naturally, a question better answered behind the wheel than on a press release.
The Type R-derived chassis hardware also signals that Honda is not treating the Prelude as a styling exercise layered onto an existing hybrid platform. Adaptive damping and Agile Handling Assist, both drawn from Honda’s most performance-focused models, indicate a genuine attempt to deliver dynamic credibility alongside the comfort-oriented GT Mode aimed at long-distance touring. For Malaysian buyers who have missed the presence of a genuine driver’s car in Honda’s local lineup, the Prelude’s reintroduction — backed by hybrid efficiency rather than a pure performance-at-any-cost approach — represents a different proposition from what the segment has typically offered.
