L’OCCITANE Malaysia’s 7th Race for Vision Draws 3,000 Participants, Donates RM50,000 to Support Children’s Eye Health in Kelantan

L’Occitane Malaysia held the seventh edition of its Race for Vision charity run, drawing more than 3,000 participants in an event centered on eye health, accessibility, sustainability and community involvement, the beauty and skincare brand announced.

The run raised RM50,000, which will go toward launching the Schoolchildren Refractive Error Intervention Programme in Kelantan, a partnership with Hospital Pakar Universiti Sains Malaysia. The program is designed to give children with uncorrected vision problems access to eye care, with the goal of helping them stay engaged in school and with their peers.

L’Occitane Malaysia first launched Race for Vision in 2018. Combined with the company’s other vision-related programs, the initiative has contributed RM1.75 million in Malaysia over 17 years and reached nearly 100,000 people through eye health, accessibility and community programs, according to the company.

The event brought sighted and visually impaired participants together on the same course. Runners from the Malaysian Association for the Blind and the Society of the Blind Malaysia took part, with some travelling long distances to attend. Many completed the 5-kilometer route paired with volunteer sighted guides who ran alongside them.

Organisers said the pairing of sighted and visually impaired runners was intended to demonstrate trust and accessibility, turning the run into a shared experience rather than a straightforward competition.

The 3,000 finisher medals given out at the event were handmade by artisans with disabilities from two organisations, the Association for the Advancement and Career Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (AACE) and Kawan Guni. The medals were produced using 96 kilograms of recycled packaging collected through L’Occitane’s Big Little Things recycling program, which gathers empty beauty product containers for reuse.

“Look around you. Today, we have 3,000 people lacing up together. Whether you are running with family, friends, or guiding a visually impaired partner, today we are fully equal on the exact same track. This morning is all about Crafting Life Ties – real human connections built step by step. These ties go far beyond the track. They are crafted by the conscious choices we make, by the hands that created your medals, and by every single person here. It’s about an entire community coming together, side by side, to make this beautiful moment happen.”

The money raised this year will fund the new refractive error program in Kelantan, which will screen and treat schoolchildren for uncorrected vision problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. Left untreated, these conditions can affect a child’s ability to read, participate in class and keep pace with schoolwork.

By identifying and correcting these issues early, the hospital and L’Occitane said they aim to improve learning outcomes and quality of life for affected children in the state.

L’Occitane said the run is part of a longer-term effort by the company to expand access to eye care and support communities through partnerships with hospitals and disability organisations, rather than a one-time event tied to a single year’s calendar.

Race for Vision has run annually since 2018, with this year marking its seventh edition. Over that period, the event has grown from a single run into one of the company’s larger community initiatives in Malaysia, according to the company, which said it plans to continue the program in future years alongside its other eye health and accessibility efforts.

The event was supported by Hospital Pakar Universiti Sains Malaysia, the Malaysian Association for the Blind and the Society of the Blind Malaysia, along with AACE and Kawan Guni, which produced the finisher medals.
