Luminox has introduced a new model to its Chronograph 3580 Series, the LM3587, expanding a line the Swiss watchmaker has produced for use in military, law enforcement and outdoor settings.
The LM3587 is built with CARBONOX, a proprietary carbon-based composite material the company uses for the case and unidirectional rotating bezel. The case measures 45 millimeters and weighs 80 grams. The watch is powered by a Swiss-made Ronda 5030.D quartz chronograph movement and is water-resistant to 200 meters.
The watch incorporates Luminox Light Technology, a self-powered illumination system that uses gas-filled tubes rather than materials that require exposure to light or a battery-activated switch to glow. According to the company, the tubes provide continuous illumination for up to 25 years and do not need to be charged or activated manually. The watch contains 15 of the light tubes, according to the accompanying product specification sheet.
The dial is finished in a black-and-sand colour scheme, with sand-coloured chronograph subdials, a sand-coloured logo and hour-marker outlines. The counter hands are treated with SuperLumi-Nova, a photoluminescent coating, while the light tubes on the bezel, dial and hands glow in shades of orange and green, according to the specification sheet.
Functions include a chronograph with 30-minute and 12-hour counters, and a date display. The case back is made of 316L stainless steel and is screwed on, engraved with the Navy SEAL trident emblem. The crown and pushers are finished in black ion-plated stainless steel. The crystal is hardened mineral glass. The battery life is rated at 54 months.
The watch ships on a 24-millimeter black NBR rubber strap with an ion-plated black stainless steel signature buckle, reference FPX.2401.20B.1.K. It comes packaged in the company’s small eco box and is accompanied by a warranty card.
The LM3587 is priced at SGD1,010 and is available through Crystal Time, the company’s Singapore distributor, at Lucky Plaza #B1-125, as well as through other authorised retailers.
Luminox has built its brand around instruments designed for use by military units, divers, pilots and outdoor recreational users, and the company says its watches have been adopted by U.S. Navy SEAL teams and other operational units. Founded on tritium-based illumination technology, the company markets its timepieces as functional tools rather than purely decorative accessories, a positioning reflected in the case materials and dial legibility features of the LM3587.
For watch buyers, the LM3587 represents an incremental but functionally meaningful update within a chronograph line that has built its reputation on all-conditions legibility rather than horological complexity. The addition of Luminox Light Technology tubes throughout the dial, bezel and hands means the watch remains readable without ambient light, without a battery-draining backlight, and without the need to expose the dial to a light source beforehand — a functional distinction from most quartz chronographs that rely on painted luminous compounds needing periodic recharging under light.
The choice of CARBONOX for the case and bezel also carries practical implications beyond aesthetics. At 80 grams, the material keeps a 45-millimeter case notably lighter than a comparably sized stainless steel chronograph, which can matter for wearers who keep a watch on for extended periods, including shift workers, travellers, or anyone engaged in physically demanding activity. Combined with 200 meters of water resistance and a screwed-down case back, the specifications point toward a watch intended for regular, rather than occasional, use.
Luminox’s value proposition rests less on movement pedigree — the Ronda 5030.D is a workhorse quartz caliber rather than a premium chronometer-grade movement — and more on the combination of materials science and illumination engineering aimed at a specific use case: extended visibility in dark or low-light conditions without dependence on external light exposure or manual activation.
