Swiss luxury watchmaker Girard-Perregaux has announced the release of its latest collaboration with British automotive marque Aston Martin, introducing the Laureato Skeleton Aston Martin Edition timepiece that combines haute horlogerie with high-performance automotive design principles.
The new watch, priced at RM 257,400 in Malaysia, features a distinctive black ceramic construction that showcases an openworked movement designed to reflect the engineering sophistication found in Aston Martin’s luxury vehicles. The timepiece’s mechanical components are fully visible through both the sapphire crystal face and caseback, offering wearers an unrestricted view of the watch’s inner workings.
“Aston Martin and Girard-Perregaux are instantly recognisable in their respective universes. What makes both brands so unique is their pure elegance, sportiness, and design codes that remain consistent over time.”
Mr. Marc Michel-Amadry, Managing Director at Girard-Perregaux
“The challenge is always to maintain the excellence that we have always had in terms of proportion, performance and that recognisable, very distinctive image and language.”
Mr. Marek Reichman, Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer at Aston Martin
The watch maintains the iconic octagonal bezel design of the original 1975 Laureato model while incorporating modern materials and finishing techniques. The ceramic case, which is seven times harder than steel, features horizontal satin finishing on the case and circular satin finishing on the bezel. The integrated ceramic bracelet combines polished and satin finishes throughout its construction.
A notable design feature includes skeletonised hands and suspended indexes finished in a green coating that pays homage to Aston Martin’s signature Racing Green colour. This coating provides green luminescence in low-light conditions while ensuring optimal readability. The timepiece also incorporates a small skeletonised seconds hand positioned at 10 o’clock.
At the heart of the watch lies the in-house GP01800 calibre, which showcases the manufacturer’s watchmaking expertise developed over more than two centuries. The movement features 55 hand-crafted internal angles and employs a black PVD-treated mainplate and bridges with four different finishing techniques: bevelling, sandblasting, traits-tirés, and circular satin finishing, all executed by hand.
The skeletonised solid gold rotor, finished in the same Aston Martin Racing Green-inspired shade as the hands, allows maximum light penetration through the openworked calibre. The movement incorporates a variable inertia balance system designed to enhance shock resistance, long-term reliability, and chronometric precision, while providing a 54-hour power reserve.
The caseback features a metallised Aston Martin logo, further cementing the partnership between the Swiss watchmaker and the British automotive brand. Through the transparent caseback, owners can observe the mechanical components in motion, including the mainspring, oscillating balance wheel, beating hairspring, and pallet lever engagement with the escape wheel.
The Laureato Skeleton Aston Martin Edition embodies a fusion of traditional Swiss watchmaking craftsmanship with contemporary automotive-inspired design elements, catering to collectors who appreciate both luxury timepieces and high-performance engineering aesthetics.
