Etihad Airways Defines Luxury Again with First A321LR Flight to Phuket

Etihad Airways marked a new milestone in luxury air travel on 1 August 2025, with the launch of its first commercial flight using the state-of-the-art A321LR aircraft. Flight EY414 departed from Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport to Phuket, introducing passengers to a premium experience traditionally reserved for widebody jets now innovatively delivered on a single-aisle plane.

The A321LR, the first of 30 such aircraft set to join Etihad’s fleet, aims to extend the airline’s renowned luxury standards to short and medium-haul routes. This strategic deployment offers elevated comfort, sophisticated design, and advanced connectivity across all classes, redefining narrowbody service.

“The A321LR symbolises our ambition to deliver extraordinary experiences on every route we serve. It allows us to bring the sophistication of our widebody cabins, including our renowned First experience, to more destinations, and to more travellers, than ever before.”

Arik De, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer at Etihad Airways

The aircraft’s premium cabin layout features fully enclosed First Suites with sliding doors, flat beds, and elegant styling, including spaces designed for guests to dine or relax privately or with a companion. The First Suites come equipped with 20-inch 4K screens, wireless charging, Bluetooth pairing, and full Etihad First service both on board and at the airport.

Business Class offers fourteen seats configured in a 1-1 herringbone layout, each providing direct aisle access, window views, 17.3-inch 4K displays, wireless charging, Bluetooth connectivity, ample personal space, and intuitive storage.

Economy passengers enjoy 144 ergonomically designed seats with generous legroom, outfitted with 13.3-inch 4K touchscreens, USB charging, Bluetooth headphone pairing, and access to a premium entertainment library featuring films, series, and games.

All cabins are fitted with high-speed Wi-Fi that supports video conferencing, streaming, and gaming, a service progressively rolled out on routes across Asia. Enlarged overhead bins further enhance passenger comfort and convenience.

The inaugural flight was sold out across First, Business, and Economy classes, underscoring strong demand for this elevated travel experience.

With the A321LR, Etihad Airways continues to push the boundaries of air travel luxury, seamlessly integrating design innovation with the airline’s commitment to exceptional service.

Etihad Airways Records Busiest Month for Aircraft Deliveries, Accelerating Fleet Expansion

Etihad Airways marked a historic milestone in July 2025, achieving its busiest month for aircraft deliveries since the airline’s inception 22 years ago. During the month, the airline received five new aircraft, including its first Airbus A321LR, two Boeing 787 Dreamliners, one Airbus A350-1000, and one Airbus A320.

This record number of deliveries underscores Etihad’s commitment to ambitious growth targets, aiming to carry 38 million passengers annually by 2030. The new additions will significantly boost the airline’s capacity across its expanding global network.

“July has been a remarkable month for Etihad Airways. Taking delivery of five aircraft is our most intensive delivery programme to date and showcases our ambitious growth trajectory. These aircraft will enable us to serve more destinations, offer increased frequencies, and deliver the exceptional experiences our guests expect across our network.”

Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways

Each aircraft type serves a strategic purpose within Etihad’s fleet modernisation plan. The Boeing 787 Dreamliners will support long-haul operations to destinations across Asia, Australia, and North America, while the Airbus A350-1000 will increase capacity on high-demand routes.

A standout among the deliveries was Etihad’s inaugural Airbus A321LR. This aircraft introduces a revolutionary cabin configuration to Etihad’s narrowbody operations, featuring dedicated First Suites along with lie-flat Business seats—a first for narrowbody aircraft in the region. Enhanced Economy seating with seatback entertainment further elevates the passenger experience on medium and short-haul routes.

With these deliveries, Etihad’s total fleet has grown to 106 aircraft. The airline operates one of the world’s youngest fleets, with an average aircraft age of just 8.7 years, promoting operational efficiency and superior passenger comfort.

The fleet expansion supports Etihad’s recently announced network growth, which includes 27 new destinations and increased frequencies on existing routes. The airline achieved a historic milestone by carrying over 20 million passengers in the past 12 months, doubling its passenger numbers since 2022.

Looking ahead, Etihad plans to continue its fleet growth with 20 additional aircraft expected to join the fleet annually throughout 2025 and 2026. This expansion reinforces Abu Dhabi’s position as a leading global aviation hub and enables Etihad to deliver exceptional travel experiences to millions worldwide.
