Lexus recently announced the launch of its upgraded luxury yacht, the LY680, which represents the next evolution of the company’s flagship marine vessel. The new model features significantly expanded entertainment spaces and will be available for order starting 21 March 2024, exclusively in Japan through Toyota Marine sales offices and select dealers, with deliveries scheduled for spring 2026.
The LY680 builds upon the success of its predecessor, the LY650, with notable enhancements designed to maximize guest comfort and enjoyment. The most significant upgrades include a flybridge extended by 1,400mm and a swimming platform expanded by 700mm, providing more space for relaxation and water-based activities.
According to Lexus, the yacht is designed to create a “hideout in the middle of the sea,” offering discerning customers a space where they can feel free and at ease.
The enlarged flybridge now accommodates a spacious lounge sofa and barbecue grill, allowing guests to entertain while enjoying panoramic ocean views. The extended swimming platform enhances the yacht’s recreational capabilities, offering ample space for deploying personal watercraft and other marine equipment.
These modifications align with Lexus’s broader ambition to expand its luxury lifestyle brand beyond automotive products, with the yacht serving as the embodiment of the company’s “Crafted” design philosophy.
The LY680 measures 20.66 meters in overall length with a beam of 5.76 meters. The yacht is powered by twin Volvo IPS 1350/1050 engines and features a fuel tank capacity of 4,012 liters and a fresh water tank capacity of 852 liters. Accommodation includes three rooms with six beds, and the vessel can carry up to 15 passengers.
Production of the LY680 will continue under the Horizon Group, an Asian yacht manufacturer recognised for its advanced technology and superyacht construction expertise. This partnership combines Horizon’s proven capabilities with Lexus’s design philosophy, known as L-finesse, and incorporates elements of the Toyota Production System (TPS) to ensure quality and efficiency.
The collaboration partners explained that by combining the Horizon Group’s building capabilities with yacht production methods based on TPS, the strengths of both brands have been leveraged to achieve further enhancements. This approach represents a strategic blend of automotive manufacturing principles with traditional yacht-building expertise, potentially setting new standards in the luxury marine industry.
The LY680 maintains the sleek styling that has become synonymous with Lexus’s marine offerings, while the interior design focuses on creating a comfortable living environment with meticulous attention to detail. Performance specifications emphasise stable manoeuvrability, ride comfort, and quiet operation to ensure confident cruising capabilities.
