The Macallan M Collection: A Prism into the World of The Macallan

The Macallan recently released The Macallan M Copper, one of several limited-edition single malt whiskey celebrating the renowned Six Pillars of the brand. The Macallan’s distinctive and extraordinary whiskies are the result of The Six Pillars, which are Natural Colour, Mastery, Curiously Small Spirit Stills, The Estate, Exceptional Oak Casks, and Sherry Seasoning.

M Copper is a tribute to the Curiously Small Spirit Stills, which are still vital in creating The Macallan’s premium spirit today. It is one of the distinguishing characteristics of the distillation procedure that signify a crucial period in the history of whisky production when the majority of distillers switched to bigger, higher-output copper stills. Their particular size and shape serve to concentrate the new make spirit and produce a powerful, rich flavour.

The M Copper launch at The Grey Box, GMBB, Kuala Lumpur on 29 September 2022 saw the attendances of whisky novices and guests such as Daniel Lim and Aaron Chin, restaurateur Jen Tang and Ken Ng, Venice Min, celebrity actress Jojo Goh and January So.

The guests were welcomed at the Decompression space which served cocktails including The M, a bold and rich cocktail and The Spey, a refreshing cocktail with harmonious sweet and tangy flavours.

Later, visitors were led through the entrance, which features a single channel of light that takes them over the threshold and into The Macallan’s realm through a misty layer that mimics the Speyside environment. The guests were directed to The Macallan M Copper, which was exhibited on a plinth, at the end of the fluid path of light.

The Macallan M Collection is a range of limited-release single malt whiskies which celebrates the brand’s acclaimed Six Pillars. The Macallan M Collection features an array of colours embodying these unique attributes and reflecting the emotions that drive the brand. The first three expressions are the 2022 editions of the previously released M and M Black and the brand-new M Copper, which pays tribute to the unique copper stills utilised by The Macallan since it was founded in 1824.

M Copper is a vivid and elegant expression with a natural colour of spun gold that highlights the flavours developed in the stills. With a hint of sweet malty flavour, it bursts with fruitiness and leaves a buttery, viscous mouth coating. Bottled in a handcrafted copper-coloured Lalique crystal decanter, this expression represents the stills and displays the authenticity that motivates the brand through its commitment to innovative techniques.

Visually representing the Six Pillars, the decanters are beautiful masterpieces created in collaboration with renowned creative director, Fabien Baron and French crystal maker Lalique. Envisioned by Baron, they feature six facets while Lalique has drawn on over 130 years of mastery to bring refinement and flawless clarity. The decanters are encased in exquisite outer packaging also denoting the Six Pillars and sustainably sourced in Scotland.

Nick Knight, a well-known luxury fashion photographer and creative visionary, has collaborated with The Macallan to produce a collection of photographs and films in his abstract and expressionistic style. As a tribute to The Macallan’s innate link to nature and the River Spey, which flows through The Macallan Estate, Knight’s photography depicts the collection as blocks of ice.

“Our Six Pillars foundation stones embody all that is unique to The Macallan, together underpinning the renowned quality and rich character of our whisky and The Macallan M Collection tells the story of these unique attributes. We are dedicated to uncompromised excellence, and proud to collaborate with Fabien Baron and Lalique to bring these extraordinary expressions to life, and with Nick Knight to create a dramatic visual world for the collection.”
