OPPO Find X5 Pro 5G Debuts in Malaysia

OPPO Malaysia launched its latest flagship smartphone, the Find X5 Pro 5G in Malaysia on 18 May 2022. The latest addition to the flagship Find X Series follows the Find X3 which was launched last year (there’s no Find X4 as 4 is generally not too favourable among Chinese), and is still focused on superior camera capabilities in a sleek and fashionable yet sturdy package.

The improvements to the phone this year come largely from the debut of OPPO’s very own Imaging NPU, the MariSilicon X which enables 4K Ultra Night Video through Sony’s IMX766 flagship sensors and Hasselblad’s Natural Colour Calibration. It is also helped by the latest-generation, multicore Qualcomm® Snapdragon® 8 Gen 1 processor, offering 30% higher performance, and 25% more power efficiency than the previous generation, in addition to enhanced AI capabilities.

Further upgrades in the camera department include SLR Level Five-axis Optical Image stabilisation to ensure greater stability when recording videos. The phone comes in Nanometer microcrystalline ceramic back panel that comes in both Ceramic White and Glaze Black, which provides a premium experience when held (Ed – ALWAYS protect your phone with a study phone casing).

As smartphone technology improves year after year with every single new iteration, new boundaries are being pushed to provide users with cutting-edge technology. One particular department in smartphone tech that has seen great improvement over the years is the camera. To this end, OPPO has pushed smartphone photography boundaries to the next level by developing its very own Imaging NPU, the MariSilicon X, that enables users to shoot better 4K Ultra Night Videos and take high-quality night shots effortlessly.

Based on a 6nm process, the MariSilicon X delivers powerful AI computing power, as well as advanced AI noise reduction (AINR) algorithm designed by OPPO’s Research Institute, resulting in overall sharper and crisper photos. Paired with Sony’s advanced 50MP IMX766 flagship sensors (Ed – if you’ve been reading this site since 2014 you’d know that I am a huge fan of Sony cameras and sensors due to their accurate colour reproduction and the clarity of the image), with a sensor size of 1/1.56”, 2um large pixel size after binning, the wide and ultra-wide rear cameras are able to take superior night shots.

This time, OPPO also debuts the first-of-its-kind SLR Level Five-axis OIS system paired with proprietary algorithms to help improve picture and video taking capabilities by countering hand movements, reducing noise and sharpening scenes with every use.

For the front-facing camera, OPPO worked closely with Sony to customize an IMX766 sensor that when paired with the processing power of the MariSilicon X, results in selfies showing more texture and accurate colour reproduction even under challenging light conditions. The camera app’s Pro mode also features Hasselblad Natural Colour Calibration, featuring creative Master Style filters for some added style to mobile photography.

The Find X5 Pro 5G looks and feels premium in the hand with its ultra-hard true ceramic back available in both Ceramic White and Glaze Black (Ed – I love the Ceramic White one!). Twice as strong as conventional glass, the ceramic back also boasts superior heat dissipation and is splash, water, and dust resistant with an IP68 rating.

Also at the launch was one of the most successful Malaysian broadcasters, Owen Yap, who has been a user of the Find X Series, dating back to the Find X3 Pro.
