Cessna Citation Xls Gen2 Achieves Faa Certification; Begins Deliveries

The most recent version of the best-selling midsize business jet family of the twenty-first century is now operational. The Cessna Citation XLS Gen2 business jet has received type approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and Textron Aviation this week delivered the first customer aircraft to a seasoned Midwest Citation operator.
“Loyal Citation customers inspire us to continually invest in bringing the latest design and technology to our product line. This fresh approach to our popular 560XL series includes comfort and productivity upgrades requested by our customers, yet retains the model’s combination of performance and efficiencies that offers midsize jet features at a smaller jet operating cost.”
Lannie O’Bannion, senior vice president, Sales and Flight Ops
The Citation 560XL midsize business jet series, which started with the introduction of the Citation Excel in 1998, is currently represented by the Cessna Citation XLS Gen2. Over the previous 25 years, more than 1,000 560XLs have been produced. Textron Aviation claims that the Citation 560XL series has continuously been preferred by business owners, fractional owners, and charter operators over all other light midsize aircraft.
Textron Aviation originally revealed plans for the Citation XLS Gen2 at the National Business Aviation Association – Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition in October 2021, demonstrating a strong commitment by Textron Aviation to develop and modify aircraft around client requirements. The upgrades, which were shaped by considerable client input, are focused on technology and design.
Among the XLS Gen2 enhancements include a new lit airstair door to boost the aircraft’s ramp presence, an entry curtain for inclement weather protection on the ground and better cabin acoustics in flight, improved accent lighting, and elegant styling and materials throughout the interior. A new pedestal seat design with individual controls, fresh aesthetics, and optional quilting improves passenger comfort, while the forward couch has an optional fold-down capability that lets passengers access more baggage in flight.
Aside from these contemporary aesthetic aspects, the XLS Gen2 has a cutting-edge intuitive wireless cabin control system with a touchscreen moving map monitor, wireless smartphone charging, USB charging ports at each cabin seat, and an optional Bongiovi Immersive speaker-less sound system.
The XLS Gen2 has a top speed of 441 knots (817 kilometres per hour), a maximum range of 2,100 nautical miles (3,889 kilometres), a takeoff field length of 3,600 feet (1,097 metres), and a climb time of 30 minutes to 45,000 feet (13,716 metres). The XLS Gen2 has higher cargo capacity and Stage 5 maximum noise level requirements while preserving range and takeoff field length.
