If you’re an 80’s baby like me who’s into sci-fi, you might have watched a TV series in the ’90s called Star Trek: The Next Generation which ran for several years on local television. One of the defining features of the starship USS Enterprise was the bar 10 Forward where the crew hung out (where Whoopi Goldberg often made guest appearances as the bartender Guinan). Stepping into Reka:Bar, I immediately got the whole futuristic starship vibe which reminded me of the series I used to watch when I was in high school!
A group of passionate individuals pushing the limits of beverage innovation and delectability created Reka:Bar. The name was taken from the Greek word eureka, which means joy of discovery, and the Malay word reka, which means creation.
The Reka:Bar team is comprised of established industry veterans who have had prominent positions or ownership in internationally famous businesses such as Mr. Foggs (London), the Other Room (Sg), and Native (Sg). With one single objective in mind—to build a unique, top-notch cocktail bar with ongoing innovation at its heart and give each and every visitor an unforgettable experience—the team pooled all of their skills and expertise to make the bar a reality.
The drink’s accessibility and sustainability are its two guiding concepts. Every cocktail on The Domino Effect, Reka’s first signature menu, is connected to the others by the use of a common component, though it is presented in various ways. The team is able to deliver the cocktails to visitors at a reasonable price range thanks to the chain reaction of flavour that results from using the entire product.
Additionally, Reka:Bar will provide constantly-evolving Spotlight menus, where the drinks are created to “spotlight” a specific concept, subject, or flavour that the mixologists are currently experimenting with. The bar explores the hues and significance of the Jalur Gemilang, the country’s flag, as part of their first feature menu as a way to pay homage to their native place.
The rear of the bar features a sort of science lab where experiments are conducted The ingredients are extracted and then kept in the jars on the shelves to mature Entering the bar, you will find the reception counter where there are some clues to what to expect on the menu A seat at the bar allows you to witness the mixologists in action up close! If you like coffee, Reka:Bar also features filter coffee with a selection of premium beans! There is a small balcony where you can watch the world go by. However, as it was a warm day, we preferred to stay indoors in the air-conditioned section There is also a short food menu where you will find some rather interesting creations
