Omakase Cocktail Mondays at Ruyi & Lyn, Bangsar Shopping Centre, Kuala Lumpur

We recently headed over to Ruyi & Lyn in Bangsar Shopping Centre, Kuala Lumpur for their Omakase Cocktail Mondays which happens every Monday from 6:30pm to 8:30pm priced at RM50++ per pax.

Every Monday, the establishment’s mixologists will conduct a casual cocktail tasting and preview session at the bar for up to 10 persons. It’s a good opportunity for you to gather your friends together to kill those Monday blues over three (3) crafted cocktails from the bar including light bites and snacks from the kitchen!

Whenever I’m at speakeasy bars or proper cocktail bars, I always prefer to sit by the bar and watch the mixologists in action. At Ruyi & Lyn, the friendly mixologists will interact with you and explain the ingredients that go into the cocktails.

The first cocktail was fresh and piquant, perfectly contrasting against the “Golden Chicks” – fried chicken skin coated in salted egg yolk which are simply addictive. A nice, bright and cheery cocktail designed to kickstart the evening!

The second cocktail was more fruity with strong notes of guava. Super easy to drink, it was paired with the “Lychee Ball” – deep fried fresh lychee stuffed with crab meat.

The third cocktail had cincau in it and was paired with a scoop of vanilla ice cream sprinkled with some matcha powder. As it was designed to be a dessert cocktail, it was rather sweet with strong flavours of the cincau and the pandan infused gin.

No trip to Ruyi & Lyn is complete without having their famous Ruyi’s Sushi (RM38) – the nation’s smallest combination of Hainanese chicken rice, nasi lemak and mango sticky rice

We also tried the XXL Dim Sum Basket – The Golden/ Steamin’ XXL Dim Sum Feast Basket which is priced at RM168++. This huge basket features your choice of fried or steamed dim sum served with five (5) different types of sauce – hoi sin, sweet red chili, green ginger, chili oil, and garlic chili, and is available daily during lunch time from 12pm to 2:30pm. A one (1) day avanced pre-order is required.

In the basket you’ll get Abalone Siew Mai, Truffle Seafood Dumpling, Gold Fish Dumpling, Broccoli Dumpling, Vegetarian Dumpling, Lotus Leaf Glutinous Chicken Rice, Golden BBQ Bun, Gula Melaka Honeycomb Cake, Hong Kong Style Thousand Layer Cake, White Lotus Salted Egg Yolk Hedgehog Bun, Charcoal Custard Flowy Bun, Traditional Coconut Pastry and Sakura Prawn Dumpling.

Also got to try a pretty interesting flavoured gin. It’s just a trial bottle so don’t expect to see it on the drinks menu just yet.

BTW Ruyi & Lyn also carries some interesting whisky selections such as Talisker. As I’ve recently learned how to appreciate smoky whiskies, I was pretty stoked to find it here.

I must say that the Omakase Mondays is a very good value for money offering. Gather up your friends and head over if you’re in the mood for some cocktails.
