Valentine’s Day 2019 Dinner at Ruyi/ Monte Carlo Bistro, Bangsar Shopping Centre, Kuala Lumpur

Janet and I headed over to Ruyi in Bangsar Shopping Centre, Kuala Lumpur (formerly known as Ruyi & Lyn) to try their upcoming Valentine’s Day menu which is in collaboration with their sister establishment Monte Carlo Bistro (by the team behind Monte’s restaurant on the 1st floor which has been a mainstay of Bangsar Shopping Centre for many years) which is located right next to Ruyi on level 4 of BSC.

The menu four course dinner features items from both establishments (although primarily Monte Carlo Bistro), and the dinner itself on 14 February 2019 will be held inside Ruyi’s main dining area.

Signature Starter – Ruyi’s Sushi Platter

The country’s smallest chicken rice, nasi lemak & sticky mango rice sushi

Ruyi’s famous “sushi platter” which made its rounds on Instagram since the establishment was launched over two years ago. All the flavours of three well-known dishes compressed into one (or maybe two) bite. My favourite is the Nasi Lemak sushi followed by the chicken rice.

Soup

Classic Carrot & Pumpkin Soup

A classic that is well-executed here – resulting in a hearty and flavourful broth.

Main Course (Choice of)

Grilled Platter

traditional lamb chop & seared beef fillet on bed of mashed potatoes with choice of mushroom or black pepper sauce

This dish featured hearty portions of meat cooked to your liking (please do yourself a favour and order the meats medium rare as anything over that would probably be a tough and rubbery piece of meat) as well as mashed potatoes and some buttered vegetables.

Seafood Delight

seared salmon fillet & giant river prawn in creamy turmeric sauce & crispy potato wedges

Yet again I was very impressed with the generous portions. (Definitely no need to pack McD on the way home). The tumeric sauce was a nice addition to this dish, imparting some very Asian flavours to a Western styled dish.

Dessert – Sexy Embrace

One word – DECADENT! A dark chocolate cake with a core of molten salted egg yolk “lava”. A very indulgent end to a hearty meal!

The Valentine’s Day dinner at Ruyi, Bangsar Shopping Centre, is priced at RM 218++ per couple (ie. 2 pax) making it one of the most affordable and value for money offerings in the whole of Bangsar (and located in upmarket Bangsar Shopping Centre too!).
