[Hotel]

Ruby and I recently headed over to New World Petaling Jaya Hotel to try out the new menu at PJ’s Bar & Grill – the hotel’s rooftop restaurant and bar. New World PJ Hotel is the only top-tier hotel in the Kelana Jaya district, integrated within a mixed development complex that also includes Paradigm Mall, Ascent Office Tower and Azure Residences.
The design style throughout the hotel is bold and contemporary, with airy spaces flooded with natural light. There is ample use of tactile materials – metal, marble, leather, natural timber and abundant bamboo flooring.

New World Petaling Jaya Hotel is ideal for business travellers as it is strategically located close to local commercial districts such as Sunway, Subang Jaya, Damansara, and Shah Alam, with easy access to major highways such as the LDP, Federal Highway and NKVE, with the Subang Skypark just 15 minutes away, LRT station just 5 minutes down the road, as well as services and amenities.
The standalone, elegant grand ballroom, is connected via a bridge-linked directly to the hotel, as are the flexible meeting spaces, supported by the hotel’s professional event and catering team. On the food and beverage front, the hotel has local food served in its all-day-dining restaurant Pasar Baru, Western and Asian grilled selections at PJ’s Bar & Grill which is a rooftop bar overlooking Kelana Jaya and surrounding areas, as well as the The Lounge which offers coffee, tea, drinks and snacks.
The stylish Residence Club offers enhanced levels of privacy and special privileges for those staying on its executive floors or in a suite, with access to the Residence Club Living Room with dedicated concierge and complimentary refreshments throughout the day.

Up on the top floor of the hotel is Kelana Jaya’s first rooftop bar – PJ’s Bar & Grill at New World Petaling Jaya Hotel, which provides a spectacular view of the city from the 30th floor. Fitted with a viewing deck, PJ’s Bar & Grill is the largest and highest rooftop bar in Petaling Jaya, where you can sip on signature cocktails by the deck or even next to the poolside, savour Western and Asian grilled selections, or tasty tapas-style small plates perfect for grazing, paired with carefully chosen wines or a cold beer.

PJ’s Bar & Grill has an indoor open grill, which serves up fresh ‘Catch of the Day’, led by Executive Chef – Alexander Chong, who has over 20 years of culinary experience in internationally acclaimed restaurants and luxury chain hotels worldwide. Chef Chong specialises in Western and Chinese cuisines and constantly brings to the table innovative new takes on classic dishes with a great flair.
Notable la carte dishes include Beef Tartaré served with Homemade Mustard Aioli and Fragrant Garlic Bread, House-cured Marinated Salmon with Sour Cream and Capers or PJ’s Party Platter of Breaded Crabcakes, Soft Shell Crabs, Hot Fries and Crispy Wonton Chips with a selection of Asian dips.
For those who like cigars, there is a private cigar lounge in the restaurant, where you have a choice of cigars sourced from Cuba and the Dominican Republic, which pairs well with some cognac, whisky or wine from PJ’s Bar & Grill’s extensive wine and liquor list.
Some cocktails to start off the evening. The Teh Tarik martini was quite interesting!

Pasar Baru (All Day Dining Restaurant)
We also returned another day to try the lunch buffet at the hotel’s all day dining restaurant “Pasar Baru” (which means new market) is inspired by the fun and flavour of Malaysia’s lively street food markets, where guests can meander and pick and choose from live cooking stations serving up fresh-made Indian and Malay curries, Chinese wok stir-fries and Tandoori dishes which are part of the buffet. Local-recipe drinks accompany the food while the dessert table, which of course has traditional cendol – a concoction of rice-flour noodles, palm sugar, coconut milk, shaved ice and sweetened red kidney beans – always on offer.
While Pasar Baru salutes Malaysia’s many-cultured cuisine and food-obsessed lifestyle, it also serves Western favourites, and also hosts the buffet breakfast which provides traditional morning comfort foods, tasty side dishes and breakfast pastries, with rich coffee and aromatic teas selection.

End your meal with some sweets and freshly torched creme brulee!
