[Valentine’s Day]
Headed over to Drift Dining and Bar in downtown Kuala Lumpur recently to try their Valentine’s Day set dinner. Drift is located along Jalan Bedara which is right behind Hotel Istana KL, and close by (but not too close) the busy Changkat Bukit Bintang. It’s a really cosy location that’s somewhat hidden from the main roads however that’s the appeal of the establishment – it’s unlike those commercialised and noisy outlets along Changkat Bukit Bintang.
Drift gets its name from driftwood – a piece of wood that floats with the tide. The establishment provides unpretentious, easy going, friendly, and accommodating service, in a cosy and warm setting, with delicious modern Australian cuisine to boot!
Anyway, let’s get to their Valentine’s Day sharing menu (sharing as it promotes conversation and is more interactive than your typical fine dining dinner) which is priced at RM388++ per couple.
Valentine’s Day Sharing Menu for 2
Entrée
Fine D Clair Oyster
Freshly Shucked Fine D Clair Oyster With Shallot Vinegar
Well you know what they say about oysters and their aphrodisiac properties ha ha! The two (2) pairs of oysters were really fresh and honestly didn’t need to go with the shallot vinegar (but feel free to add some if you like some additional taste).
Hokkaido Scallop & Tiger Prawn
Sesame Crusted Hokkaido Scallop, Compound Butter Tiger Prawn With Lemongrass infused Roasted Carrot Puree and Mushroom Truffle Emulsion
This was just heavenly with two of my favourite ingredients (scallops and truffle) in the same dish! This was an apt representation of the modern Australian cuisine found at Drift – featuring typical Aussie seafood yet combined with ingredients found in other regions (ie. the lemongrass and truffle), and combining it with some good culinary skills, resulting in a dish that is as elegant as it is tasty!
Mains
Heart Shaped Smoke Salmon Ravioli
Heart Shaped Beet Ravioli Pasta Filled Smoke Salmon and Spinach, Tomato Bacon Emulsion
Two pairs of heart shaped raviolis with a very flavourful filling! Went exceedingly well with the tomato bacon emulsion which imparted some creaminess with a hint of piquancy. I like how the chef plays around with the different flavours and textures – transforming a rustic dish like ravioli into a modern, colourful and extremely photogenic dish that’s perfect for Instagram!
Beef Tenderloin
Grain Fed Beef Tenderloin With Truffle Mash, Red Wine Shallot Custard, Bone Marrow Butter and Vegetables
Oh my! Look at that lovely pink centre! Order your beef nothing over medium if you want to enjoy juicy and tender cuts of meat. Eat it with the absolutely delicious red wine shallot custard, and creamy bone marrow butter which really complemented the beef! The silky truffle mash was a lovely component in this dish too! (If you don’t eat beef, kindly inform the restaurant when you make your booking.)
Dessert
Heart Shaped Cheese Cake
Chocolate Mousse, Strawberry and Raspberry Coulis
I personally liked the chocolate mousse (thanks to my fondness for dark chocolate) however she liked the whole dessert so I think girls would really enjoy this one.
Priced at RM 388++ per couple inclusive two (2) glasses of bubbles or wine.
There is also a vegetarian/vegan option available however you need to request for it when you make your booking.

No time to buy flowers? You can also arrange with Drift Dining and Bar for some flowers from Helwa Bloomers for your date that night.
- Single Rose Stalk and Card – RM 10
- 10 stalks of pink and red roses – RM 60
- Big Bouquet of Roses 20 stalks. Pink or red roses – RM100
