The Colonial Cafe will bring guests to a glamorous era of quality swing music and sharp dressing of The Rat Pack with their style and panache, with the Solianos rendering some of the Rat Pack’s famous hits such as ‘Fly Me To The Moon’, ‘The Lady Is A Tramp’, ‘Mr. Bojangles’, ‘That’s Amore’, along with seasonal favourites like ‘Merry Little Christmas’, and ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside’.

We got to try an abridged version of the Christmas Eve dinner at The Smoke House which exudes lots of classic charm, making this a very romantic and elegant period dining restaurant indeed – perfect for intimate dates, or gatherings with family and close friends.

A traditional winter/ Christmas drink which is popular in the United Kingdom (with variations throughout Europe). A warm and slightly spicy cocktail with a wine base with brandy and hints of citrus from the orange peel.

A lovely starter featuring creamy, sweet, piquant and savoury flavours – a hint of things to come…

Cream of Watercress Soup with Lobster Meat
This was highly unusual… watercress is not the most common ingredient for a Western style soup dish but you know what? It works! Very well too! The flavours actually complemented the sweetness of the lobster. So much so that my partner in crime declared this as her favourite dish of the night!

Accompanied with Cranberry Sauce, Stuffed Chestnut and Buttered Vegetables
Expertly carved on the spot by the chef. A very Christmassy dish indeed!

This was my favourite dish of the night. A beautiful piece of cod with an Asian soy sauce accompanying it. Great harmony of Eastern and Western ingredients in a dish! Thumbs up to the chef for daring to try something different from the traditional Christmas dishes.

The Smoke House’s “Rat Pack” Afternoon Tea
“I would like to be remembered as a man who had a wonderful time living life, a man who had good friends” ~ Frank Sinatra.
While the fairer sex has their dainty high-tea in the tea lounge or in the Orchid Conservatory, we gentleman get to enjoy the Gentlemen’s Afternoon Tea – a specially curated set for men and their very own “Rat Pack” who are keen to enjoy an afternoon with a distinctive masculine slant.
This gentleman’s experience offers a selection of canapé-style bites from fish & chips, chicken and leek pie, mini beef burger and fries to homemade scotch egg. It includes an unending flow of tea and coffee, as well as one (1) tankard of beer.
This special set is priced at RM80 nett per person and available from 3 pm – 6 pm daily throughout the month of December 2017.
Jack Daniel’s Sinatra
The story goes – Frank was at the bar with entertainer Jackie Gleason. This was during the golden age of cocktails, conversation and camaraderie. It was a night for a serious whiskey, thought Sinatra. And that’s when Jackie turned to Frank and said “Have you ever tried Jack Daniel’s?” From that night forward, and the next 50 years, Frank and Jack would be fast companions travelling the world.
