Lavo’s 1st Anniversary Party

Headed over to Lavo in Tropicana, Petaling Jaya on 7 September 2017 for their 1st anniversary this September (Lavo opened its doors in June 2016). Lavo is known for it’s extensive wine list featuring more than 1,300 notable New World and Old World wine labels, with new wines and rare vintages featured every quarter in which many are made available by the glass. The restaurant also has a menu of Asian and Western items to complement the wines, beers and liquors available.

“Lavo is central to our M Group concept as it will be our main all-day dining outlet, and will support outlets such as Chaze and Maze, through its extensive kitchen. We’re especially proud of Lavo’s wine repertoire that offers an incredibly wide comprehensive selection in Malaysia. There is no place quite like Lavo in Tropicana, where friends and families can unwind in style, comfort and revel in great food, exceptional wine and good taste,” said M Group director, Benson Tay.

The 1st Anniversary celebration kicked off with a performance by No Noise Percussions – a percussion band that used household items, water pipes, car exhaust and cones to create their tunes.  There were also lucky draws for guests who attended the celebration, while Vivas Magic performed a visually enthralling LED Violin performance.

The night also featured a selection of finger food, canapes and nibbles from Lavo’s kitchen while drinks were flowing freely adding to the merriment of the party. The after-party at CHAZE saw DJ Ken Master on the decks providing the beats for the party-goers.

Yiruma Live in Kuala Lumpur 2017

Mikasa and I were recently hosted by CREON Asia (the organiser) at the Yiruma Live in Kuala Lumpur 2017 concert on 10 September 2017. The show saw the critically acclaimed and extremely talented pianist play some of his best known songs such as River Flows in You, I, and Kiss the Rain among a repertoire of his songs from early albums to the latest one and even a song from his upcoming album. Between the songs, Yiruma also interacted with the crowd, giving some insight into the songs, and even got a member of the audience up on stage to play a song with him.

He had us laughing with his dry humour, and wowed us with his piano skills, playing modified versions of most of his songs as he said that “if I were to play exactly as I did on my track, there’d be no reason for you to attend this concert”. Yiruma also played a couple of songs accompanied by a guest violinist, adding some variation to the playlist. All in all, it was an evening which evoked emotions through Yiruma’s various numbers which is testament to the artiste’s impact of reaching the audience through the power of music.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle

Caught the media preview of Kingman: The Golden Circle which is the sequel to Kingsman: The Secret Service (2015). Kingsman: The Golden Circle has a star studded cast which includes Colin Firth, Julianne Moore, Taron Egerton, Mark Strong, and Halle Berry with cameos by Sir Elton John, Channing Tatum, and Jeff Bridges.

Here’s the official synopsis:

“Kingsman: The Secret Service” introduced the world to Kingsman – an independent, international intelligence agency operating at the highest level of discretion, whose ultimate goal is to keep the world safe. In “Kingsman: The Golden Circle,” our heroes face a new challenge. When their headquarters are destroyed and the world is held hostage, their journey leads them to the discovery of an allied spy organization in the US called Statesman, dating back to the day they were both founded. In a new adventure that tests their agents’ strength and wits to the limit, these two elite secret organizations band together to defeat a ruthless common enemy, in order to save the world, something that’s becoming a bit of a habit for Eggsy…

I thought that the movie continued the whole silly and quirky yet violent tone set by the first movie. There’s a fair bit of profanity in the movie too so if you’re offended by the F-word you have been warned. I don’t normally use the F-word myself however I was quite intrigued at how it was used in various forms – as an adjective, a noun, or simply to swear at something/ someone ha ha! The best bit for me was the Elton John cameo which was just so funny without him actually trying to be funny!

Kingsman: The Golden Circle opens in Malaysian cinemas on 21 September 2017.

After the preview, Karina and I headed down to the Tag Heuer exhibition for a small cocktail to see the watch that was featured in the movie. The exhibition highlighted the Kingsman and the American Agents, Statesman’s elements from the movie as well as for the very first time, the TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 Kingsman Special Edition worn by the Kingsman and the Monaco Calibre 11 worn by the Statesman. In addition to the showcase of watches, the exhibition also showcased components from the movie including Kingsman’s wardrobe as well as movie settings akin to Statesmen’s. The TAG Heuer Kingsman Exhibition ran from 11 – 17 September 2017 at the concourse of MidValley Megamall Kuala Lumpur.

The Kingsman Special Edition reproduces the aesthetic adopted by the agents in the movie: pink gold lugs and an elegant leather strap with Kingsman print. The watch comes with a second strap in orange velvet, inspired by the iconic orange velvet smoking jacket worn in the film by Taron Egerton. The key difference between the Kingsman Special Edition and the core collection is in its dial functions. Available in either midnight blue or grey, it bears the Kingsman inscription and logo at 9 o’clock and 3 o’clock. At 10:10, the dial vibrates for 10 seconds and the K-shaped logo appears. In a final nod to the film, the original Android Wear lighting function is replaced by the film’s logo on the dial, in gold on a white background. An all-terrain watch with an elegant, English-style Kingsman touch.
