Alice and I headed over to WIP! in Bangsar Shopping Centre, Kuala Lumpur, to try their Valentine’s Day 2017 menu which is entitled “Je t’aime Mon Cherie” which roughly translates to “I love you my darling/ dear”. The four (4) course French inspired wine pairing dining experience for couples is available at WIP! from 11 to 14 February 2017.

At WIP!, capture the evening’s memory at the Parisian photobooth with some props such as photo frames before heading to your table where you and your partner will be served a glass of bubbly to get the juices flowing (and by that I mean your appetite).
In keeping with the French theme, a mime artiste and magician will be going round table to table to entertain all with their whimsical antics. This experience is available at RM388nett per couple, or RM588nett per couple for the four (4) course dinner plus a bottle of selected champagne in place of the wine.

I really like the fact that the soup was loaded and I mean loaded with seafood – prawn, squid, fish and oyster while the broth was very flavourful with a touch of creaminess. The Sauvignon Blanc did its job by cutting through the richness of the soup with its clean and mildly dry flavours allowing you to enjoy this pairing to the last drop! A good start to the meal.
Appetizer (choice of):
Grilled Oysters with Fennel Butter
If you can eat oysters, go with this one. In fact I wished that there were a dozen of these (of course this is probably due to the fact that I really like oysters) as the oysters were generously smothered in cheese, yet retained enough briny and umami flavours to make you just keep eating them! The wine pairing was good too as the (slightly) sweet wine did well to contrast against the flavours of the oysters.
(Beef) Bacon Wrapped Chicken Terrine with Pistachio Vinaigrette
Not bad but seriously – go for the oysters!
Both were paired with Brown Brothers 18 Eighty Nine Chardonnay
Main course (Choice of):
The Lamb Loin with Soft Polenta & Tomato Jam
paired with Tuscan label, Principe Chianti
Beautifully cooked cuts of lamb with a pink centre ensuring that were tender and juicy and went so well with the Chianti.
Salmon with Three Lemon & Crème Fraiche Sauce
paired with Tempus Two Silver Series Pinot Gris
This one was a nice combination of umaminess from the salmon, piquancy from the ratatouille, and creaminess from the risotto (yes a little Italian influence here) which was actually quite filing! Between the lamb and the salmon I’d actually pick the salmon (even though I’m more of a red meat eater) due to it’s larger portions!

Chocolate Petit Four & Strawberry Mousse
paired with the Brown Brothers Moscato
A sweet end to the meal whereby the sweet Moscato was a good accompaniment to the not too sweet (thank goodness!) desserts.
All in all I’d say that this menu is pretty good value for money! Loved the oysters and the salmon and I think the wine pairing was spot on – providing a good contrasting/ complementing flavours to go with each dish.
