[Chinese New Year Special]

 

MHB’s Jenny Ma, Angelica Tan and Jiayeen joined myself and Andy Kho for the review of the Chinese New Year menu at Dorsett Kuala Lumpur. Checkers Cafe will be having a special Chinese New Year menu from 29 January until 5 March 2015 created by Executive Chef Yau and his culinary team.

Starting off there was the customary yee sang toss!

 

There are six (6) variants of yee sang available at Checkers Cafe:

Jelly Fish Yee Sang – RM68++ (small set), RM88++ (large set)

Butter Fish Yee Sang – RM68 (small set), RM88++ (large set)

Thai-style Tiger Prawn Yee Sang – RM78++ (small set), RM98++ (large set)

Salmon Yee Sang – RM78++ (small set), RM98++ (large set)

Abalone Yee Sang – RM128++ (small set), RM168++ (large set)

Australian Lobster Yee Sang – RM238++ (small set), RM268++ (large set)

Here’s a look at some of the dishes:

 

The two (2) dishes that I enjoyed the most were the Sous Vide Free Range Chicken and Fresh Ginseng and the Steamed Salmon with “Virgin Soya Sauce” because the slow cooking process locked in the juice and flavour into both the chicken and fish making the flesh really tender and delicious! Great to see the culinary team using non-traditional Chinese techniques to cook Chinese style dishes! The Nian Gao was pretty good too!
