[Food & Beverage]
I enjoyed the food during MHB’s review at Estilo Spanish Tapas Bar & Charcoal Grill (which you can read here – https://timchew.net/2014/10/22/food-review-estilo-spanish-tapas-bar-charcoal-grill-at-publika-kuala-lumpur/) that I decided to return to try more of their tapas.
With me for the night was Pei Shyen.
Some house red wine to start the meal.
Calamares Rellenos (RM20.00) – Baby Squid stuffed with minced prawns & vegetables
We decided to go for the less mainstream tapas. Most people would order the house specialities like the mushrooms in cream sauce or the lamb meatballs which is fine but I do suggest that you also try the other tapas as well.
Piquillos Rellenos (RM22.00) – Sweet Spanish peppers stuffed with minced beef, cheese sauce
Now don’t worry as the peppers are not spicy. The mixture of textures and flavours in this dish was really very enjoyable!
Gambas Al Ajillo (RM22.00) – Prawns in garlic & chilli, garlic chips
Savoury, spicy and flavourful! This would go perfectly with beer!
Chorizo (RM20.00) – Imported Spanish paprika chorizo on confit potato
Oh how I love chorizo and this one was salty and delicious! Another great dish to pair with beer!
Brandada (RM18.00) – Salt Cod with mashed potato and cheese gratin
Soft slightly gooey texture with the cod smothered with cheese! True comfort food indeed!
Escargots (RM24.00) – Escargots with leeks & cream sauce, roast apples
OK OK so I did order one of the more mainstream dishes but I really couldn’t resist as I’m a big fan of the escargots served at Estilo as they are served on roasted apples and are served out of their shells (great for lazy people like me!). I mopped up every last bit of the sauce with the complementary bread.
Estilo has a Spanish guitarist (yes a real Spanish guy) playing some tunes on his guitar once a week. Girls, I think you’ll like him a lot.

Grand Launch of Kilo Grill at Publika Kuala Lumpur
Headed over to Publika for the launch of Kilo Grill which is a new self-grilling barbecue experience with a concept of world cuisine, featuring dishes from the East to the West. Kilo Grill sources some of the finest ingredients from all around the globe, such as the Spanish Iberico Black Pig to Scotland’s John Ross Junior Smoked Salmon, and Kilo Grill’s signature item – the Flaming Argentine Sea Prawns. With the owners being Malaysian, they decided to include a little something special which is their eccentric dessert – the ‘Petai’ Ice Cream.

The prawns are covered in liquor then lit and let to burn until the flames went out. It doesn’t cook the prawns all the way through and that is intentional as these are “sashimi prawns” which are meant to be eaten raw. The flamed outer skin has a different flavour to the raw flesh inside and the prawns were incredibly fresh! Definitely a must-try at Kilo Grill!

You will either love this or hate this. Chances are if you like petai you’ll like this ice cream. The petai flavour is not overpowering but there’s enough of it to break through the creaminess. Think of it as vanilla ice cream with subtle hints of petai!
Kilo Grill uses specially imported coal for the grills which generate less smoke when burnt.
Pricing wise, I must say that Kilo Grill is quite affordable for a restaurant in Solaris Dutamas. Do give this place a try if you like grilled food.
