[ADV]
It might seem odd to some of you (especially my male readers) that I’m writing about grooming treatments on my site which primarily features topics such as automobiles, tech, gadgets, alcohol, parties, etc. etc. and indeed almost everything related to the men’s lifestyle. The reason I say almost is because I’ve quite neglected one topic and that is grooming which is an important part of life. Let me assure you that taking care of your outlook is not something that makes you less of a man in any way and most females will actually appreciate a guy who knows how to take care of himself. Of course there’s the good-natured ribbing and disbelief at first – Tim Chew going to an aesthetic centre? However my female friends have been very encouraging when they found out that I’m actually doing some treatments at esmé Aesthetic Clinic. To them it’s something natural and they do go for facials and treatments every month so it’s certainly nothing new to them.
Therefore in the coming weeks and months you’re going to see more posts and stories relating my experience at esmé Clinic Aesthetic Clinic. Here’s my previous post which is more of an intro and I believe you ladies will like this one – https://timchew.net/2014/10/04/esme-aesthetic-clinic/
Dull, tired, rough, uneven complexion with large pores thanks to my (unhealthy) lifestyle.

esmé Clinic uses the latest technology machines and equipment for their treatments.
First the carbon powder is applied to my face.
Then I had to wear a special protective goggles to protect my eyes from the light from the carbon blast machine. The light feels slightly hot on the skin but it’s not searingly hot so it’s not to say uncomfortable. Unlike normal laser treatments, there is no downtime for the carbon blast.
Here’s a video of the carbon blast.
So how exactly does it work?
The Carbon Ion Nano-Lambency therapy combines the ND: YAG (1064 nm) laser and Carbon Ion Powder to effectively brighten your skin, reduce your open pores, reduce pigmentation (Nevus of Ota, coffee spot, age spot, freckle etc) and stimulate the regeneration of the collagen fibre of your skin.
The skin is the largest organ of the body, and is made up of two layers, the upper ‘epidermis’ and the lower ‘dermis’. The epidermis and the dermis are further divided into other layers. The lower most layer of the epidermis is known as the basal layer and it contains organelles called ‘melanosomes’. These melanosomes contain cells called melanocytes which produce a pigment called ‘melanin’. The colour of skin depends mainly on this melanin and the amount of melanin present in the other layers of the epidermis. The thickness of epidermis and vascularity of the epidermis are other factors affecting the colour of skin.
Therapy
- Carbon powder, as an exogenous artificial colour agent, possesses strong absorptive capacity to absorb the dirt deep in the pores and attract pigment in epidermis layer.
- The carbon powder has excellent absorption properties on 1064nm laser light.
- The medical graded laser generates high energy and heat to stimulate the regeneration of the collagen fibre under the skin. The body’s natural repair function leads to the collagen’s redeposition and rearrangement, which results in reducing the wrinkles and fine lines, shrinking pores, smooth skin, regain a brighter, more even and luminous complexion.
Treatment Theory:
The laser radiates the light of specific wavelength in high peak energy pulse, and in ultra-short nanoseconds the light penetrates the tissue and is absorbed by the pigment resulting in an instantaneous blast.
The pigment particles are shattered into fragments, parts of them will be bounced out of the skin and the other parts will be split into tiny particles that can be engulfed by phagocytes and then eliminated by the lymphatic system.
Features:
– The technology of single lamp and two rods makes a single pulse energy reach 450mj, which provides better treatment effects
– The effect is 12 times more than the common laser machines.
– It not only enhances the effect of thrashing the pigmentation, but also avoids blain (inflammatory swelling or sore) or scars after laser treatment.
– Smoothens out fine wrinkles and expression lines
– Reduces pigmentation
After the carbon blast, I got a thorough cleansing to remove any remnants of the carbon powder and to remove the dirt from my skin.
This was followed by a hydrating mask to add moisture to my skin.
Noticeably brighter and even complexion after the session – a fact that was noticed when I met up with my bloggers that night. Of course, you can’t expect a miracle after only one session so I’ll be having a couple more carbon blast treatments coupled with some other treatments.
Before versus after!
