Huawei Ascend P7 – Tech Specs

[Tech & Gadgets]

The nice folks over at Huawei Malaysia passed me a unit of their latest flagship model – the Huawei Ascend P7 which succeeds the outgoing P6. The P7 is an upgrade of the P6 in pretty much every department and comes with a 5-inch FHD touchscreen display with 1920 x 1080 resolution, protected by Corning® Gorilla® Glass 3 in both front and rear covers.

The rear cover has a metallic appearance thanks to the seven-layered rear surface treatment with a refined “spin effect” micro-pattern design,  and metal going around the top, and the sides making this phone look extremely classy indeed. The effect of this is that the phone can be a bit slippery as when you’re holding it you’re mainly holding metal and glass so I learned to hold it extra securely.

The phone is 6.5mm thin, putting it among the slimmest 4G LTE smartphones in the world and is very light – about 124 grams. The Ascend P7 is powered by a 1.8GHz HiSilicon Kirin 910 quad-core processor, 2GB RAM and Android’s latest Kit Kat 4.4.2 with Emotion UI 2.3 which is quite a light UI with minimal lag. In fact, I didn’t experience any lag at all even when playing games which have a lot of graphics.

Powering the device running is a 2,500mAh lithium polymer battery which is equipped with an advanced power-saving mode, making it possible for remaining 10 per cent battery life to last 24 hours on standby.

The phone comes equipped with a 13MP non-spherical lens Back-illuminated sensor (BSI) rear-facing camera, with the Image Signal Processor (ISP), giving users functions that mimic those found in professional digital SLRs, including autofocus, white balance and noise reduction. To access the camera quickly, the rear camera can be activated within 1.2 seconds of double-clicking the down volume button while the device is locked making it really handy for capturing the moment.

The front camera is a 8MP non-spherical lens equipped with IMAGESmart 2.0 software that has 10 level auto-facial enhancements in beauty mode. Girls just LOVE taking selfies with this phone as it automatically enhances your face – just adjust the beauty level and snap the pic. No additional editing required although you could edit it even further with the in-built camera software. No 3rd party apps needed here.

The Ascend P7 is equipped with Huawei’s unique dual antenna designed to improve signal receptions and enabling unlimited media viewing with 4G LTE speeds. The Ascend P7 also uses smart network switching technology that stabilizes the connection even during weak signal reception to minimize battery drainage.

The phone is available in black or white and here’s a look at both colours:
